Pregnant after a Loss

Little bean measured 5 days younger than LMP date...should I worry?

I had a wonderful ultrasound yesterday and a heartbeat was found...woohoo!  Our little bean measured 5 days younger than the date of my LMP though.  My OB didn't seem worried by that but she was in a rush to catch a flight to go to Colorado, so she seemed more rushed than she normally is.  Should I be concerned about the mismatch in dates?  My next ultrasound is 9 days from  now at my request.

  • The u/s can be up to 5 days off in general but are you positve when you ovulated?

  • At my 8w u/s she took 3 measurements and got a span of 3 days, so that's my proof that there's a margin of error. Also, like @HorseLover11 said, if you weren't charting, you could have O'd a few days later than CD14, which is what LMP assumes.

  • I agree with the other ladies, unless you know when you ovulated than the baby could be measuring right where it should be. For instance, I ovulate on day 16-17 and not the typical 14.

  • Thank you so much for your supportive words!  This was also my first normal period after losing our last pregnancy, so there are probably a few variables I can't pin down.  I really hope this little baby is our rainbow babe!

  • At my first u/s baby was measuring an entire week behind and my dr never said a word. I knew I had ovulated about 4 days later than normal though too. I'm 19 weeks and everything is going great! Dates and u/s machines can be off so I wouldn't worry!!

  • ::lurking:: I just wanted to share our experience - DS1 was measuring small by a few days at our first u/s, no big concern. But as my pregnancy progressed, he was measuring smaller and smaller at each u/s we did, at which point my doctor was concerned and we did more u/s and NSTs to keep a closer eye in him. He was little when he was born, but was completely healthy and we made it to full term. At this point, I wouldn't worry yourself about it, but just keep an eye on it, and know that your doctors will be as well.
