STM+ moms-Monitors

If you still are using a monitor for your older kid(s) what are you doing about two?

We don't need monitors at night, I guess that is an advantage of a small house, but need them for naptime.  For DS, we just got an audio monitor.  There are a few times I wished for a video monitor, but never so much that I actually shelled out the cash for one.  It seems though that video monitors are the only ones that allow for multiple monitors.

Re: STM+ moms-Monitors

  • We keep going back and forth on this. Our current monitor works fine and eventually they will share a room, so we are trying to decide if we want a new one with multiple monitors or just buy another one. I'm no help :(

  • We just got a video monitor and two cameras. Before that I just had an audio one. Sounds like you could get away with just the audio...

  • We'll just get a second monitor.  We currently don't need one for night time either (DD's room is across the hall from ours), but she will be moving to a room downstairs soon so then I'll need it at night, plus the baby will need one for naps.

  • We are using one, but mostly because my husband refuses to get rid of it haha. The new baby will go from our room to his. If he wasn't I'd probably just take it out of my older sons room for the younger one.

  • We are going to move the camera monitor from DS room to the DS2 room when he comes. My DS1 sleeps through the night and we have done some serious baby proofing in his room not to mention we are are close enough to hear him if he needs us

  • Knowing we would need it for two was part of the reason I sprung for the video monitor the first time.  If you really just need a second monitor for naps I'm sure you could either get a cheapie audio monitor, or look at craigs list or consignment shops for another one second hand.

  • I upgraded to the Summer Infant Multiview.  It's basically the same as the Baby Touch 2, which we have and love, but with two cameras and a split screen view.  We will be on a separate floor from both kids after LO arrives so it was a must for us.  The Baby Touch still retails for $200 so I'm going to resell it on a yard sale FB page and recoup some of the expense of the new one.

  • We have two separate monitors in DD's room right now: a basic audio and a dLink video monitor. We plan to keep the dLink in DD's room since it's got the option for audio and can be viewed from any device with an internet connection.  The baby's room will get the audio one when we move her into the nursery, but not sure if we'll get a second dLink monitor or not.

  • We have the AngelCare in DS1's room now, and I'd keep it there for my peace of mind if he hadn't already started getting out of his toddler bed on his own in the mornings. So we'll probably move the AngelCare to DS2's crib and get a video monitor for the nursery. I don't really need the video at this point, but sometimes it sounds like DS1 is doing some hillarious things in his room and I'm always curious what he finds so funny.

  • Since we are about to move DS to a toddler bed, we have decided to just get a video monitor with two cameras. Up until this point I've never felt a video monitor was necessary, but knowing that DS will be able to get out of bed on his own makes me nervous.

  • I'm getting a second camera for our video monitor because we'll be moving DD to a real bed & I want to see if she's actually sleeping or just playing in her room.
  • I have two Foscam cameras set up right now (one in my son's room and the other down in the basement mancave/playroom. I'm planning on getting a third for this LO.

@ckandi007 - I've been looking at the Foscams, Is the only way to view it on some sort of device over the internet? (phone, computer, etc)?  I get worried that I'll want to see what DD is up to if she cries at all during the night but don't necessarily want to be fumbling around with my phone at 2am.

  • @MrsT2008 - Yes, it'll have to be through the internet so either a smart phone, tablet or computer. I use the Foscam app ($5.99) where you can have the screen backed out, but you can still hear sounds so you can use it like an audio monitor, too. I charge my phone by my bed each night so it's always by me just in case.
