Success after IF

It's Official...

After 3 months of trying to get the pediatrician's to determine what is wrong with my child...the Ear, Nose & Throat Specialist confirmed that Lilly needs her tonsils and adenoids removed. I had a sinking feeling this may be the verdict b/c of her sleep apnea..but I thought the chronic cough may have something to do with allergies...not the case. Uuugh, he recommended she have them removed before the twins arrive in February b/c Lilly will need a weeks of close care. I'm sad but I'm also slightly relieved to have a diagnosis. Has anyone had any experience with this surgery?

Re: It's Official...

  • Not myself but I've worked in early childhood for many years and from what I've heard and seen is that when young children have this surgery, they bounce back quickly and it's a 2 week recovery (for tonsils) and a few days recovery for the adenoids.  She will be a much happier little girl when it's over.  She will def start sleeping better.

  • My neice had it.  It took her about a week to get back to normal and she regressed to a bottle then, but since the surgery, no ear infections and she eats so much more!
Good luck, hopefully this does the trick for little Lilly too :)

  • I don't know much about this, but poor Lilly!  It sounds like she's been through a lot and then surgery on top of it.  :(  Hopefully you can get her scheduled soon, so you won't be taking care of twins and her recovery.
  • I had this done when I was little (4yo, maybe?) and it definitely helped to cut down on the episodes of strep throat. I still remember getting to have a little bell to call for my mom whenever I needed her once I was home. :)

  • My cousin's son had his taken out on a Thursday and went home that afternoon.  He returned to school on Monday, although my cousin said that he probably would have been fine going on Friday!  He's 4 yrs old.

  • I had my tonsils out when I was 22 and it was hard because of my age.  My dr said if I would have done it when I was younger it would have been a breeze.  I hope it goes well and she starts feeling better.
