fighting sleep already? :(

Any other mommies deal with babies who fight sleep so early on? LO is 12 days old and I'm exhausted from her fighting sleep and wailing. I tried paci but twice now she's had a hard time latching so it freaks me out beyond belief to use it again though it helps a little bit.

Re: fighting sleep already? :(

  • You aren't alone! My LO is 15 days old, and started fighting it only a few days ago. I find it helps to hold her for awhile as she is starting to fall asleep. It soothes her a lot. Or we use the bouncer. If it doesn't work, I just let her stay awake. I know in a week or two it'll get easier. We use a paci too but have had no latch issues.

Is she sleeping during the day? Or not at all? If she isn't sleeping at all, I'd call a doctor. Mine mentioned that if the baby seems too sleepy, or just won't sleep, to call.

Hang in there! I'm sure you will figure something out.

  • I assume you mean at night? It's probably not so much fighting sleep as the fact that newborns often have their schedules switched. Unfortunately, it's just one of those things you have to work through. You may want to check out the other thread on getting baby to sleep in the bassinet to get some ideas for making LO more comfortable and encouraging her to sleep at night.
  • Thanks for the response.

She is a great sleeper when she actually gets there. I'd say twice a day she does a fight sleep thing. The rest of the time its a piece of cake...knock on wood.

I have her in a swaddle pod at night and noise machine or sleep sheep. Swing sometimes helps but when she doesn't burp, I hesitate to put her in anything or lay her down bc of her spitting up. One day she puked like everything in her tummy...I think bc she overate. None the less scared me to death.

  • Maybe I'm wrong but my LO like only burps here and there. I burp her after every feeding but it doesn't always work. If you're scared just hold her for awhile. :) It's so normal to worry!
  • Thanks yeah the choking thing has me up the wall paranoid. I burp her after every one and hold her for a while too. I keep her closeby but it's still scary! :-/

  • She could be at the 2 week growth spurt, or just on a different schedule and really doesn't need to sleep.
  • Us to we have been dealing with this for about three days now.
  • It happens after a feed is over and she acts super tired...sometimes will fall asleep and wake up 3-5min later so to me, it seems like fighting sleep. Its so exhausting and frustrating. I know its part of the deal and I'm okay just hard because sometimes I can't make it better for her. Last night I tried EVERYTHING and finally just put her in her swing and after about 5 minutes of on and off wailing she went to sleep.
