2nd time moms question...

When I delivered DD, none of my contractions measured on the machines.  The nurse had to keep record of them based on when I told her I was having them.  I definitely had contractions... they hurt... but I think I contracted lower than most people do.  The top part of my stomach never got hard...The nurses kept telling me that they were going to get a lot worse, which scared the crap out of me obviously... I was about to get an epi because I was afraid of what was going to happen... but then DD came quickly.

I am just curious if anyone else had this happen?  The reason I'm thinking about this is because I had some Braxton Hicks today which I didn't with DD and they felt really low too... so I'm wondering if I had a weird labour or if I've got a weird body...

  • I didn't labor like that (I had all.back labor until getting my epi) but all my BH are down low and not my entire ute.

  • Yes!!! This happened to me, too! But then I progressed quickly after they broke my water, and then my contractions started showing up on the monitor. The nurse was like, yeah, I can tell you're having them, because I was on pain, and it was at a regular interval, but they weren't registering!

  • Mine didn't register on the monitor either and the nurse didn't believe I was having any. I was hypnobirthing and Dh kept track of them. The nurse thought I was sleeping and wanted to start pitocin. They only really started to believe me when I had a contraction during a cervical check and the midwife said "you're having a major contraction right now" and I said "yes, I'm aware". LOL.

Anyway, I'm not sure why mine didn't register. I don't think the tools they use are infallible, and I think that variations among women are highly likely when it comes to contractions in labor and bh. That's my completely non medical opinion on the topic.

Then again, you might have a weird body. I might too. Who knows?

  • Mine didn't register and I had the epi so I didn't feel pain with them. I could tell by feeling my stomach though and pushed then.

  • I didn't have the same situation, but with my second I definitely had a lot more braxton hicks and was convinced I was going to go into labour before my RCS date because there were so many, so often and so strong, but that was not the case.  I think your body just reacts differently and more sensitively the second time around.
