Laundry detergent

Just curious on what brand of laundry detergent is good or recommended to wash LO's laundry in. It's been 14.5 years since I had to worry about laundry for a newborn and back then I used Dreft. Any suggestions?

Re: Laundry detergent

  •

I use arm and hammer sensitive. That is the only thing I can use and not break out in.hives
That's what I use too because my daughter and I have sensitive skin and break out easily. I may just try that and see how that works for LO's laundry as well.

  • I'm planning to keep using my Tide liquid detergent. I tend to be sensitive to other detergents myself but have never had issues with Tide. I do plan to pick up a free and clear type of detergent to have on hand, just in case, but I wasn't planning on switching to anything special.

  • We use Tide powder for all our clothes and diapers. DD has broken out from other things, but we've never had a problem with the Tide powder. She actually has significantly fewer diaper rashes than when we were using DIY detergent and Eco Sprout.

  • We just get any of the free and clear detergents.

  • I use Tide Free and Clear. I used Dreft but quit when I realized how dingy it made the clothes look. It's not color safe.

  • I've been washing all of LO's things in Tide Free and Clear. Based on what I've heard from pros (aka, the STMs), any type of free and clear is good for use with baby.
  • I use all the Honest Companies laundry products. My skin is super sensitive and everything else makes me itch. They have detergent, "oxy clean", and dryer sheets. I love it and they mail it to you, no trips to the store. Or you can buy them on babyearth.com I also use Buncha Farmers Natural Stain Stick. I'm pretty crunchy when it comes to products that touch my or LO's skin.

  • I'm horribly allergic to Tide, and sensitive to a ton of detergents. So we will be sticking with what my skin can tolerate for baby on the off chance that she has the same sensitivities that I do. Luckily its also good for cloth diapers- All Free and Clear.

  • I just use the giant tub of cheap powder from Sam's Club. I think it's called Wind Fresh. $15 for about 6 months' worth. It's the only thing I've ever used on DS's clothes. We all have very sensitive skin but it's never caused any problems.

I always use vinegar in the rinse and avoid fabric softener like the plague.

  • I just use whatever detergent I have on hand. None of us have sensitive skin so its not a problem.

  • DD is sensitive to Tide, so I wash her clothes in free and clear. Not sure what brand I bought the first time, but I just now bought a second bottle (a year later), and I just bought Target brand. I might switch all of our laundry to it and see if DH just won't notice....

  • I was thinking about this. I also thought we would just use all or tide free and clear. We have both had sensitivities to scents and detergents but had used tide without problems.

I was kinda thinking maybe we would also start washing our clothes in f&c detergent since out clothes could irritate the babies skin too just holding him. I planned to maybe start doing our laundry with it in April. Is this like too neurotic or good idea?

  • I started using Dreft with DS1 because we got some as a gift, and the only difference I could find between it and Arm and Hammer F&C was a 400% mark up in the price tag. DS1 hasn't had a reaction to any detergents so far, so we're currently using Tide powder. I tend to buy whatever is on sale and not full of scents.

  • I use Ecos unscented for all our laundry. We CD and its just easier to have something I can use for diapers and reg clothes.

  • I think we bought one bottle of Tide Free and Clear last time for the baby's things. When that bottle was done we just washed baby's stuff with ours in the regular Tide. Oops. This time I don't think I'll bother with it and will use our regular detergent for the whole family. I'm not convinced that the whole "free and clear" thing isn't just a marketing gimmick. None of us have sensitive skin, which helps too.

  • We use Purex. It normally goes on sale at Walgreens for b1g2 free, or 1.99 each. With LO coming, we can just pick up the free and clear kind.
  • We use arm & hammer so I just switched to their free and clear kind. I use Downey stoppables for our laundry for an extra boost of freshness but do all of LO's laundry separately.
  • I plan on using Tide Free and Clear

Totally a good idea! I didn't even think about that!
  • I've been using All Free & Clear for years for all of our clothes. This sounds pathetic, but our dog is allergic to something in the regular detergents, so we switched ages ago. Combine that with the fact that I can get it in bulk at Costco ... yup, we'll be using it for LO's things as well.
