WTF Insurance Company

So I'm wondering if anyone has any insight into insurance stuff...'

Logan had to be in the hospital for two extra days (after I was discharged) because of his blood sugars and then jaundice. We called and got him covered on our insurance (fed BCBS) within the 30 days. We got a call today saying that we and the provider are going to be charged $500 each because the hospital didn't get the rest of his stay pre qualified (the extra two days)...this is in addition to the other "normal" bill for our stay.

This makes no sense to me since there was no break in the hospitalization. Has anyone else had this issue?

Re: WTF Insurance Company

  • If the hospital screwed up, they have to eat that cost not you. Call bcbs and they can call the hospital with you and explain it to them.

  • If a service was not pre - authorized that is not something that you can be billed for so long as your hospital is in network with your insurance, fed bcbs is in network with nearly every hospital so you shouldn't have to pay anything extra for the extra couple of days. I agree with PP about doing a conference call with the hospital billing and your insurance company. Good luck!
