Mini Van Sexiness

Hey Dads, It's been a while, but I'm back and it's been a crazy ride since my last post. The wife is pregnant again...and with twins! I'll have three kids under 2! As soon as I can figure out this widget-timeline thing I'll update that. Plus, just traded in my SUV for a mini van. Tried to fight it but we couldn't fit 3 car seats in the Equinox...so I'm making mini vans sexy again...does it help to have Sesame Street on repeat in the DVD player?

Re: Mini Van Sexiness

  • Ain't no sexy in that, player.

Twins!!! 3 kids under 2 equals prision guard certification.

Yers, I know I have used that before.  Never gets old!

  • My wife is the one who refuses to get a minivan. The gas mileage isn't awful considering the size.

And Sesame Street is my jam. Elmo is my hero. He can keep my son occupied for entire 10-15 minute blocks of time!

10-15 minutes??  You should buy stock in any toy companies that manufacture Elmo products!

  • Congrats on the twins! Welcome to the club!!!!
  • Congrats and welcome back!

My wife doesn't want a minivan.  I think she feels like it would trap her as a soccer mom forever.  We looked at some when her car died a couple years ago, but she couldn't bring herself to do it.

if was ever even thinking of going the minivan route, I would skip over minivan and go straight to Sprinter.
More space, more versatile, and better mileage if you get the Diesel.... and pretty much the same price.
I have a couple friends with them and they are flippin awesome.

    one weekend, camping

  • We have multiple vans in the yard and my wife finally wants one. My E350 will pull a 2 car trailer and you can't even feel it plus you can sleep in the back. The Astro can haul full size sheets of plywood or sheet rock or even my Snapper riding mower. Favorite I ever had was an Odyssey and we are looking for another one of those now.

They are truly the most versatile vehicle ever made. Don't skimp out either, get the bells and whistles. You can even trick it out a little, tint the windows, slam it, but it on air bags or hydraulics, Sesame St sounds awesome with some subs hooked up, install a super charger and a NOS kit or whatever floats your boat. Just make it yours and drive the snot out of it.

Whatever you do, don't forget the "If This Van's A Rockin..." bumper sticker.

  • I am a driver of a mini van, Buick Terraza to be exact.  When my 4 door was dying, my grandparents-in-law offered to sell us theirs and we took them up on it.  If you go mini van, the included DVD is a must.  It made the trip from Indiana to North Carolina much more manageable when you can plug in a movie for the kids, so they don't focus on how long the trip is.  My dad has had a Dodge Grand Caravan since my sister was born (1985) and I just remember how glad I was to have it on family vacations and it seems like it does a pretty good job in hauling a bunch of things too.

Congrats on the twins!  3 under 2, I've got 2, one just turned 3 and the other turns 1 in less than 2 weeks and I've got my hands full with them.   Good luck!
  • Wow, congrats. The pressure is on now. The last 3 guys to announce pregnancies have all been twins.

We're lucky that my son will be 3 and a half when they are born. We have a Mazda Tribute, but I haven't tried the car seats yet. I was just assuming I could get them to fit, but maybe I should mess with it this weekend. My son can sit in a booster seat so that will help save space.

So how many weeks is your wife? Mine is 15 weeks.

  • My wife is 14 weeks this weekend, we're looking at mid August. Let the madness begin!

  • Mine will be 16 weeks this weekend. Do you know when your next U/S is? Are you going to find out the sex? We've already started buying the big things for them. Need two of a lot of stuff now.

I think that's how it went. Gonnabeadad joined with his wife already pregnant with twins, then I announced, then David announced. I can't think of anyone announcing after gonnabeadad. Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

I guess 23Marcus made an announcement, but the way he's having them he almost qualifies to be in the twin group.
  • Ha! @polooo27 - our next ultrasound for the sex and specialist check up is next month. My wife has no patience, so we will know the sex(es) as soon as possible. I guess I want to know too...have to figure out if we need girl things. I already have a 16 month old boy, so we're covered if one or both are boys. As far as buying things, we have a lot of friends who are done having kids and have offered us their extras...we're done after this too, so I rather not purchase anything additional, especially since I have one of everything already and my son didn't use half of that stuff. He hated the swing, was in that rock n play for two weeks and so on. Here we go....3 kids in under two years. I'm in!

  • You're all in for sure.

We picked up an extra car seat and bassinet at 70% off at Target. Getting an extra crib from a friend. Plan on getting the Options stroller. You can buckle the car seats in it, and then when they're older it comes with bigger seats. And they're under 300 bucks. Just need a swing and a bouncy now. Everything else is the small stuff.

These things always come in threes!

    Or sets of twins, apparently?

  • This has become a dangerous game.

That actually sounds pretty cool though.
  • Well well well! DavidStamps my brother we are in the same boat! Congrats we are an exclusive class! But like I told ole boy polooo27, I'm allergic to minivans! SUV with 3rd row seating all day here! Lol

  • Yea it must be the year for twins! I do have to say if you're looking for a good twin stroller go with the city select.
We are in the final stages, 34 weeks on Sunday.
Are you guys finding out the genders? We haven't. Planning a C-section? Currently both babies are are head down and we are planning to do it the old fashioned way!
Glad I've got some guys here who can relate with me.
  • We're planning on finding out the sex. They told us there's a 50% change of C-section and we don't really have much say in the matter.

Can you post a link to the City Select. A quick google search turned up a bunch of stuff and I wasn't for sure which one. We are planning on going with an Options stroller.

  • It looks like we are having two boys. My wife has no patience and wanted to know ASAP. We're only roughly 15 weeks, but our OB found a penis and said the other one was turned sideways but she could see it. We will have a definite lock in a few weeks. But I'll be good with 3 boys...our house will always smell like a gym bag. What does this stroller look like? The wife doesn't want a side-by-side stroller...so I'm on the hunt.

  • I told my wife how the last three announcments here have been multiples.  Since we are very close to starting on our second one, she remained silent when I shared that news with her.

  • @DavidStamps - I think it's actually Contours Options LT. It's $270. You don't want that one though. The Contours Optima is $300. The main difference I see is that the Optima has cup holders. Here's a link. You can find the Options LT from this link too. https://www.buybuybaby.com/store/product/Contours-reg-Optima-reg-Double-Tandem-Stroller-in-Berkeley/1018586487?categoryId=32044

I think you'll need to buy an extra infant car seat attachment so you can put both car seats on it. I think it only comes with one. It also comes with 2 normal seats for when they're older or for your older son to sit in. Congrats on the boys. My wife really wants girls so maybe this is a sign we'll get girls. You know, to even everything out.

  • This is what we got, with all the second seat and such. I do have to say it is long but we really like it. We didn't know what car seats we were going to use and britex apparently makes these fantastic cheap adapters which we found so we went with that.

davidstamps - congrats on the boys! We had our 34 week scan this morning and all went well. Both kids are weighing in around 5 lbs do all looks good for now!
  • That's great news. Seems like you guys are well on your way.

  • I brought home an Odyssey for the wife the other day and she didn't like the arm rest so she didn't want it?

She found a Toyota Seinna XLE Limited today that she likes, so we brought it home tonight. Looks like another van added to the family. She swore that she would never drive a mini van but I finally converted her.

Now just have to figure out how to pimp it out and make it sexy!
Proud 40 year old, first time daddy!
  • The arm rest is very important. My sister had a car that didn't really have one. I drove it a couple times and hated it.

Spoiler and flames is really the only way to go. Rims, tinted windows, and any sort of neon will get you huge bonus points.

  • Pimpin' it out Japanese style!!image

  • Tint is a must. I hate spoilers but have been looking at the body lines and think that maybe some old school scallops would look good with some old school Cragar's. Am I the only one here that is old enough to remember that look?
Proud 40 year old, first time daddy!
  • I am old enough to remember, @spotco2.

  • Paint over the back windows with an epic airbrush mural... maybe a dragon or something totally badass
