We usually go out for a dinner date the weekend after Valentines Day. We find it more relaxing and enjoyable when we're not fighting crowds, worrying about making reservation times, and feeling rushed. Plus, we don't have to pay the Valentines Day premium prices for the same meal!
We exchanged gifts this morning - we usually just get each other something small - and tonight we'll order out for dinner so neither of us has to cook. After the kids go to bed, we'll have some wine and hang out and play a new game that DH got for me.
Eta: I just found a $100 Applebees gift card that ILs gave us for Christmas - I had no idea there was that much $$ on it. Woo hoo! Applebees to go tonight!
Usually we don't do anything. I think V-day is more of a holiday for the kiddos than anything. But I was REALLY surprised that H just brought me flowers home with him. In the 7 years we've been together he has gotten me flowers three times. As much as I think this holiday is lame, I have to admit I was really surprised and touched.
We are going out to dinner tomorrow night - we try to avoid the crowds, so we never go out on the actual day. We have a babysitter, and it will be our first time out without kids in months - maybe the second or third since DD was born.
For DH, I finished up a t-shirt quilt I started for him at Christmas, then gave him candy. He gave me candy and some coupons that he made. I know that's kind of cheesy, but he wrote fine print on them that refers to some of our funny relationship quirks.
We never do anything. DH is almost always traveling a lot this time of year. I did get a card from him last year. MIL has offered to watch the kids this weekend so we can go out. I fully plan to take advantage of this, regardless to if it's for a valentines dinner or just getting out!!

I cooked us a really nice dinner and made fancy Valentine's themed cupcakes for dessert.
Money is tight so I told DH I didn't want any presents. I do wish he would have gotten me a card, or heck even a little heart drawn on a post-it would have sufficed. Oh well. He felt super bad when I gave him his card, then later when i asked him to go pick up something at the store he came back with a bunch of roses.

I made DH a homemade card of sorts and I will dip some strawberries in chocolate.
