DS is going to start baseball this summer, taking after his father. And DD will hopefully be doing gymnastics & cheer (when she is old enough, of course).
I danced for over 20 years, so we will definitely put baby girl in dance lessons when she's old enough. She also has really long, thin fingers so I think she would make a great pianist and I've always wanted to learn to play the piano myself.
That being said, we will choose what to put her in at first and see where it goes. If she is going to have other interests, I'm not going to force her to do anything, as much as I would love to watch her grow up taking dance lessons like I did.
I'm hoping to get DD in a dance class or tumbling class this summer. Other then that she has already started to show her interest/curiosity in skateboards so I'm sure she'll take after mommy and daddy.
Not sure about DS yet. Maybe football like his daddy.
I'm a pretty decent singer and did choir through high school and most of college. I would love it if DD enjoyed singing as well, or a musical instrument. I was into acting since I was in elementary school and kept up with theater all the way through college and would hope DD gets the acting bug as well.
She's tall (22" at birth) so everyone says she will play basketball. That's always been my favorite sport and DH played in middle school, so I wouldn't mind if she really did get into that.
@km_md I agree. I won't be forcing anything on them, but would like them to try them and see how they like it. I would find it more fun to see how my kids do at something that I used to enjoy. I would be able to offer more help / advice/ input as well as just actually know what's going on when I watch.
DS plays soccer (like me) and he starts golf camp in march. DH hates golf and sucks at it but we both think it is an important skill for business so we are hoping DS likes it. I've always wanted to play and plan to take lessons when I retire. I'm guessing DD will play soccer too.
It would be fun to get DS into either baseball, football or basketball or more than one of those. DH and I hate hockey and we live in MN and hockey is like the big sport up here, but it's really on what he will like to do. I wouldn't mind soccer but DH hates it. I guess whatever DS ends up doing or liking we have to support him.
Definitely soccer, and I never did it, but have heard great things about martial arts as a confidence-building hobby for kids. Being as we run a camp, he'll at least try rock climbing, hiking, whitewater rafting, camping, etc. I'm hoping that I'll be able to instill some drama nerdiness in him as well.
And, way down the road, I'm not sure he'll have a choice but to be into craft beer, seeing as he's 4 weeks old and has been to three breweries so far...

I'll be putting DD in dance when she turns two. And I want both of them to take karate or some sort of self defense class. Also they will both probably try baseball and I want all my kids to learn to play an instrument.
DH wants DD to do a sport of some sort and play an instrument. I'd love for her to do dance like I did. I'm guessing we'll try a few things and see what she likes best. Hopefully she'll love dance as much as I do.
I want all my kids to try soccer. I played from the age of 4 up through and including college, where I was all-state, etc. We're a soccer family... both my sisters played in college as well and my dad coached a few of the girls on the women's national team (Carli Lloyd, in particular... she's a very close friend of the family and hosted a benefit in honor of my dad after he passed away.) Here are the 2 of us on St. Pattys Day (just before I got KTFU
DS1 loves soccer and played the past 2 falls, but will be trying tee-ball for the first time this spring (DH's favorite sport!) We let him choose what he wanted to do and I'm excited to see him try something new! DD1 is VERY excited that she's finally eligible to play soccer this upcoming fall. YAY!
Something I really don't want my kids to do is be a cheerleader. (Sorry! Kinda.) Of course, if they ask me if they can, I well (reluctantly) say yes. But still. Please don't.
I was a competitive swimmer for 16 years and was close to making it to Olympic Trials, so DD will for sure be in the water at a young age! My dad was my coach for a long time, so he's super excited for her to try it - and the fact that she'll most likely be tall makes him continue his hope for an Olympic swimmer in the family!
No one in the family (mine & SO's) played sports. But I use to Freestyle dance like a mix between hip hop and choreo. I want DD to pick what she wants to do and I'll support her. I might expose her to muay Thai and see if she's interested.
Lo would roll to her side from day 1 and has really strong legs so I want her to try gymnastics but DH says too expensive (I agree but I may convince him to let her try... 2 year old gymnastics is a great exercise. She is also really long so thinking she may be tall and would be good for volleyball.
I would love it if they are into music- either choir or playing an instrument- since it was such a big part of DH and I lives. DD had no choice in her first activity being stage crew as I am running lights for a show in April and she will be with me as I plan to still be breastfeeding.
I refuse to force her to do anything. I would like her to play some type of instrument. And she will most likely do schutzhund (dog sport) as both DH and I participate and she has already gone to training and enjoys it. She loves when the dogs bark! I have a feeling she will be a decoy/helper just like her mama.
Ballet and rock climbing. My DH and I both do ballet and rock climb so she will be exposed to both activities from a young age because we have easy access to both activities.
DS is going to be a soccer player. He keeps trying to hit things with his head, like my chest. Seriously, I've got his head supported, but he pulls away from the support to bang his head into anything within range. It's kinda scary.
Both DH and I did a wide variety of sports and activities growing up ( I did volleyball, gymnastics, cheerleading, track & field and DH did baseball and lacrosse). So long as she's active, I'll be happy with anything. We will put her in gymnastics when she's 3 (I was a coach for this age range and it's awesome for overall coordination, focus and balance) and anything else she shows interest in as she gets older. Hopefully she'll also get daddy's artistic side, too (can you tell I'd do anything to keep her from being a tech junkie?)
If I had it my way, H would learn piano and E would learn violin. Both are beautiful instruments and really hope our kids love music as much as DH and I do!
If DH has any say in it, basketball and/or football. I would like him to try soccer and play a musical instrument. In the end though, it's all about what he wants, and enjoys doing.
Re: What sport / hobby is LO destined to try?
Not sure about DS yet. Maybe football like his daddy.

I'm big into music, so I'd really like him to play an instrument.
I want DD to pick what she wants to do and I'll support her. I might expose her to muay Thai and see if she's interested.
They will probably be involved on other sports but I'd be content with them being 1 sport athletes who play year round.
When he's older, he's not allowed to be in marching band. Sorry-I teach high school and the band kids are weird.
