DS gagging himself

Happy Valentine's Day.

DS apparently likes to gag himself. It's usually when he's bored or maybe teething. I don't think it's stomach issues because usually he's laughing and acting happy when he does it. He's 14.5 months. I tell him no and give him something else to do with his hands, but I don't know what to do when we're in the car.

He has made himself throw up twice in the car. Once was so bad that I had to pull the car over to clean him up.

Does anyone else's kid do this? Any recommendations on how I can get him to stop?

Re: DS gagging himself

  • Mine does this and I always take them out, even though he just does it again. Have you tried giving him toys, especially ones to chew on? I know mine likes this in the car.

I would say put hot sauce or lemon juice on his fingers, like you would for nail biting but I don't think that would be good for a young one.

  • He loves to chew on lemons (even eats the rinds). I do give him toys, but maybe I'll get one of those organizer things that goes on the back of the chair that has more toys and books in it to keep him occupied.
  • @HilarityEnsued, that could be it. I see him doing it in the rear view mirror and start singing "if you're happy and you know it" to get him to take his hands out of his mouth.

I can't imagine the puke on a plane. DS has pooped twice during takeoff, and that was bad enough. Hopefully it's just a phase!
