Stopping ultrasound cervix checks after 22 wks with triplets?

It seems like a lot of people know their lengths.  MFM and ultrasound tech said they measure digitally after 22 wks.  Is this normal?  It was 3.98 cm at 22 wks, but still curious.  Wks 24-28 are so super important with trips.
Thanks!

Re: Stopping ultrasound cervix checks after 22 wks with triplets?

  • Sorry I don't know the answer with trips but they stopped measuring mine around 24 weeks (twins). After that they just do cervical checks "by hand" to make sure I'm not dilated.

  • I was measured with u/s until 32 weeks, when they did a manual check, and then never again.

  • I also had u/s till 30 something weeks. I only got checked 2 times I think once I was in ptl. They told me u/s was better and safer.

  • Twins- at MFM, Ive gotten checked every other week since wk 16. They will stop at 31/32 (next appt) via u/s. OB will start checking manually for dilation at this point.

My OB manually measures at every visit starting at 12w (I'm 30 weeks, and measure 6cm), and my MFM does an u/s at our monthly visits, but after my last appt (28w) she said they won't measure it anymore.

  • My OB measures via u/s and manually at every appt. My last was 24w, not sure if or when they will stop. They did tell me at the very beginning of this pregnancy that they check manually but it's just an extra precaution as the u/s would show any funneling or other issues before they could detect a problem with a manual check.

  • I have twins My MFM would have stopped measuring with ultrasound after 24 weeks, but after having lost twins due to IC and ptl I insisted on being checked until 27w. Would have been 28, but I got my appointments messed up.

  • My OB checked manually every 2 weeks as soon as I hit 20 weeks.  I did not see a MFM or have as many ultrasounds as most people have.  I had 5 ultrasounds and 3 were done in the 1st trimester.  At my A/S they checked my cervical length.

  • My MFM only checked my cervix at 24 weeks via ultrasound.  They don't check again unless I have an issue such as frequent contractions, cramping, bleeding.  I HOPE they don't check me manually for a very long time, if at all.  I am having twins BTW.

  • I also had a late loss due to IC and PTL & was checked until 28 weeks.

  • I asked to be check via u/s today and Dr said no.  Said since she checked me and I'm closed and "plenty long," they really wouldn't do anything with the information.  Closed at this point is what they want.  I basically just shut up after that.

  • Well, after this, I've been 10 days in the hospital. Came in with or ins low, like vaginal area. On 2.21, cervix was down to 1 cm and 2 cm dilated. We'll c tomorrow. ..
  • My OB and MFM have been checking by ultrasound up until this point (30 weeks).  OB said he didn't want to check manually unless I was having cramping/bleeding, etc because it can stir things up.  I believe starting at my next appt he'll check manually.
  • Yes I wish they would have listened to me and checked via u/s at least until 28. We'll see if there's a change today.
  • I saw my MFM last week (24 weeks) & he said we didn't need to do anymore at this point. I'm not sure my OB will agree, but I've had great measurements so far & no real cause for concern. I'm interested to see what my OB says at my appt on Thursday. I'm not looking forward to a manual check either :/

  • No change in 8 days... Came home yesterday. Some people may think manual checks ate painful, but it's better to have peace of mind! Hanging in there at 2 cm. Check friday.
