Shortened Cervix

Hi ladies!!  I am 25 weeks with di/di girls....can't believe how fast this is going!!  All of my appointments have been great, no complications, and I carried DS full term...39 weeks and he weighed 8 lbs 2 oz.  All that being said, I had a checkup with my MFM this past week and my cervix has shortened to a 2.7.  I got pretty scared b/c I just did not think this would happen this soon.  They did an FFN test which came back negative, thank goodness, but I am still super anxious/worried that I will go in to pre-term labor.  I am going back a week from tomorrow to see if there has been any changes, but wanted  to see if any of you have had experience with this.  Did you go on bedrest?  Did your cervix keep shortening?  I am really trying to take it easy, drink lots of water, etc.  Thanks in advance :)

Re: Shortened Cervix

  • I had the same thing happen at 25 weeks except I think my cervix was closer to 2. It's normal for your cervix to start shortening as you toward the 3rd tri and anything over 2.5 is considered normal. My MFM did not even measure my cervix after 28 weeks because in your 3rd tri the cervix length is not predictive of PTL. He did put me on restricted activity (basically take it easy) and I carried to 36 weeks/6 days. Good luck - I think you're fine!

  • Agreed. I wouldn't panic. It's supposed to start shortening & you are still in the normal range. Take it easy, put your feet up more than you have been & try to think positively - it could be much shorter. Rest up, mama!

  • Mine started to shorten a bit and my MFM inserted something called a pessary to help, you might want to ask about it.  Here is an article about it if you're interested:
