Infant or Children's Motrin?

Newly diagnosed with double ear infection, sinus infection and confirmed hand foot & mouth with horrible blisters in his throat. Still congested cough as well. Just terrible. Anyway, I just noticed that the highest dose of infant Motrin says for 18-23 lbs and Ben is over 24 lbs now. Pushing 25. Should I go up or just stay with infant? Im asking primarily bc he is so young... The last dose I gave him didn't help a ton but I'm not sure if its because he has so much going on or weight...?

I believe that the only difference between the infant and children's is the concentration. The infant's Motrin is more dilute so it is easier to give a smaller dose. You would still give a weight based dose no matter which one you use.

  • PSNLS is right. If you want me to calculate exactly how much he should get based on his weight and the exact dosage, let me know!
  • Poor Ben, and poor you!!! I can't even imagine how difficult that is. Hoping he feels better really quick. HUGS

  • Thanks everyone! @kelly422 That would be great. I am walking in to get children's Motrin now. Today his weight is 24 lbs 8 oz
  • @kelly422 Thank you very much! You are awesome.

A friend me ruined that her son (3 yrs old) was given a numbing mouth wash but our pedi didn't recommend anything like that for Ben. Maybe because he's an infant and would ingest it all versus spit it out?
  • I have babies that see me do the magic mouthwash - just use a tiny bit.  It's a 1:1 mixture of Maalox and Benadryl.  You can do just a couple ml's and even if he swallows it, it wouldn't hurt him.  Either use a syringe that you can aim towards the sores or even a Q-tip to dip them directly (if he cooperates!).  It's basically an easy topical anesthestic, so if the mouth sores are really painful and he won't eat because of the, try that and then feed him shortly after.
  • @Kelly422 You are amazing. Thank you so much!!! One last question: Children's Benadryl, correct?

Also just re-read my above and meant to say "mentioned" not "me ruined". Stupid autocorrect.
