NBR: Holy Anxiety, Batman!

edited February 2014 in June 2014 Moms
DH gets his tonsils out today.  I'm a huge mess.   My ride home from work last night I was busy making financial/logistical plans for when he dies on the table, because I always think in worst case scenario ways and there was that teenage girl in CA who died from a tonsillectomy lately...yeah.  So this morning I dropped a cranky toddler off at a daycare that might close early (luckily, my backup plan is the daycare provider, and she's fine with taking C early if needed), came home, had a hissy fit about the state of the house, yelled at DH for not moving fast enough, and am sitting quietly on the couch having a meltdown with my sweater pulled up over my mouth because that oddly feels better.  It does not help that we're supposed to get 8 inches of snow today, the procedure is a half hour drive into the center of Boston, and with DH out of commission and me being pregnant, I have to bed the neighbors for help clearing the driveway.  Oh, and in 20 minutes we have a conference call with a refinance lady, because let's make that appointment for the morning of surgery...I'm such an idiot.

I DO NOT LIKE MY ANXIETY!

Please repeat: DH will be fine, it's a simple procedure, and the snow will not be as bad as you think, and C will be delighted to spend extra time with her friends.

Thank you for your kind gifs of support.  You can find me hiding in my sweater in tears.
He's fine!! Thank you all for helping me calm down!!

  • Anxiety sucks. Distract yourself if possible, or decide that you are going to just "observe it." I.e. Work to consciously realize that your thoughts and fears are the result of anxiety; resolve to know that this state of anxiety has come and will also go. Know that it will pass. Watch it the way you would watch a storm: as a temporary state.

  • HA HA HA!!!  Actually, the guy I would be BEGGING to help is awfully cute, don't suppose I'd mind bedding him, apart from the whole cheating on DH part of it :)

    Thank you!

  • It will be okay! But yes, you are kind of crazy for scheduling that conference call today.

P.S. Getting your tonsils out as an adult sucks. The procedure is simple but the recovery is slow. Make him drink his fluids according to the doctors orders. Be aware that the scabs eventually come off and it is not pretty.

Everything will be okay! Hugs. I know the feeling I'm a natural born worrier myself.
  • Whew, that's a lot for anyone to deal with in one day.  Hope it all goes smoothly!

  • That poor girl who is brain dead from CA did not have a routine tonsillectomy. She had far more complex procedures, please don't yard stick against that case.

Take a deep breathe and try to relax, he will be fine.

  • Bedding your neighbors is one way to reduce stress ;)

But seriously I totally get being anxious about things even if you know they are totally going to be fine. It made the news because it was so incredibly rare not because it is something that happens normally. I will send you have favorite hug gif.

  • It'll be okay!! I had my tonsils out a year ago and I'm still here :) some words of advice for your husband...drink alllll the time and stay on top of your pain meds. I think my instructions were to take a pill every 4 hours but I divided it in half and took half a pill every two because otherwise it would seem to run out and I'd be uncomfortable for 30 min before I could take another one. The biggest piece of advice I have is to set an alarm at night to wake up and take the meds, if you wake up in the morning without having them for 8 hours you'll never get comfortable again, I'm 100% serious. People say humidifiers help a ton but I didn't want to buy one, but if you have one it's worth trying out. Good luck to your DH!! He'll be just fine!!

  • Awww please be nice to H!!! And don't bed the neighbors!! It might be hard but try not to worry, people get those procedures done all the time! You can't hold off plowing for a day?
  • Yuck! Sorry you're dealing with all that crap today lady! You'll be fine. DH will be fine(and potentially amusing from the drugs). C will be awesome :). Youre in Boston? Lady you've got this! snow schmow. The neighbors will happily lend a hand to an adorable pregnant mama. Good luck! Deep breaths. You'll. Be. Ok. Promise :) here's a cute seal. image

  • Everything will be fine. Your anxiety sounds very similar to mine, and it blows. Here is this to make you feel better. It made me laugh.

  • Aww I'm sorry. Anxiety sucks! Your DH will be ok. I had my tonsils out as an adult too and while it took about 2-3 weeks to be back to eating solid foods and sleeping laying down - it wasn't that bad. FX that your weather holds out til you can get everyone home!
  • Good luck to you and your husband!  I'm sorry you're feeling so anxious.  I get anxiety and my mind goes to the worst for everything, so I can empathize with how you're feeling.  Hang in there!

Thank you!  I had a long talk with a friend about that case.  So much misinformation was put out about it to sway people.

    Your DH will be fine.
  • @lilygrace48 how'd everything go? Is C in bed yet? Did DH say hilarious things when he woke up? How ya feelin??
