    I would return the camera without hesitation and if your MIL brings up her gift again, just keep reiterating how impossible it is.

    It does stink to not get realistic assistance, but that is the thing about gifts. I love me some practicality! Sorry you're in a tough financial spot; I can empathize.

    Return the video camera and use the money to buy some baby necessities!

    I would suggest going to SF when it's convenient for ALL of you or else it's a waste of vacation time!!
