Well, reflux meds (Zantac, Prilosec, etc) don't stop the baby from puking, they just stop what is coming up from being acidic (so the kid won't choke on it, won't be uncomfortable when spitting, etc).  I guess it could not agree with his tummy and he could spit more...My DS was a terrible spitter, and the meds never really helped him, except that he wouldn't scream when he was spitting any longer.  And actually being in the car seat/bouncy seat wasn't helpful because being in that position, it almost put pressure on his tummy and made him spit more.  It was SUPER frustrating, but once he hit 6-7 months, he didn't spit nearly as much.  I am not sure why, but it was wonderful ;)
Good luck...I hope your LO grows out of it soon!

  • I'm with Laura1. Meds didn't do a thing for the spit up, but did help with the pain. I found that the amount of spit up naturally increased with the amount of food he took in. It resolved when we started doing real table food around 10 months and he was off meds by 1, but it was an awful experience. So sorry- reflux sucks!!

All of this. More liquid intake = more spit up. DS spit up quite a bit until almost 1 year old. I kept him on meds (prevacid) until he was 13 month old. The infant car seat is a bad position for little refluxers because they sit kind of hunched over with their tummy compressed. My son seemed to be happier once we switched to a convertible seat.

    IVF #1 ET 1 d3 embryo 10/30/11 BFP
    3 Embryos frozen (1 d5, 2 d6)

    DS born 07/29/12

    FET #1 ET 1 d5 embryo 02/10/15 BFN

    FET #2 1 d6 embryo didn't survive thaw, transferred last d6. CP :(

  • I would also recommend using an aden and anais burpy bib for car seat use. It is really absorbent and snaps around the neck. It helped to preserve our upholstery and DS's outfit.
