Hi all. I recently suffered a ruptured ectopic pregnancy after failing methotrexate treatment. In the process, I lost a lot of blood, my right tube, and the 7 week old embryo inside of it.
Was wondering how long it took anyone to conceive after losing one of their tubes and how long you waited to try. We're benched until at least the three month mark because of the methotrexate and because my blood level is so low.
Thanks.
Re: Cross Post: Pregnancy after Salpingectomy?
We weren't actually TTC when I got pg that time, so we waited about 8 months to try again. I got the same warning about waiting b/c of the Metho though. I didn't lose a tube but we didn't have any trouble conceiving after the ectopic.
GL! I would say if you feel emotionally and physically ready after the 3 months to give it a go!
WARNING PICS
((HUGS)) I am so sorry for your loss. I hope you are recovering well and taking care of yourself.
I'm actually a lurker and I post normally on PAL, but I had a Salpingectomy back in October 2010, lost my right tube as well (& spent 2 nights in the hospital due to complications), but I conceived my oldest son in January 2011. I actually had a really bad doctor who gave me methotrexate with a heartbeat & told me that I could TTC 2 weeks after the surgery and a negative HPT. It's a very long story, but please make sure that your doctor does blood draws down to 0 to make sure they didn't leave any tissue in you. I was put on a very bad roller coaster ride.
From what my current doctor said.....if you ovulate on the right side there is a 10-15% chance that the left tube will pick it up. Also when they remove your tube the blood flow to that ovary changes (that's why some women go through menopause at a young age when they have their tubes tied) so sometimes after several years you may rarely if ever ovulate on your side with a missing tube. You may also get hot flashes & twinges on your side with your recovery-it's all normal. I think the overall fertility rate (if your other tube is normal) isn't much different after 5 years as someone with both tubes, although at the time I had surgery I didn't believe that I would ever have a successful pregnancy ever. I was very depressed. A lot of the information you will find online is overall success rates and includes people who did not TTC again, as well as people who have IF, so please talk to your doctor about your chances of success and DO NOT rely on Dr Google or you will feel horrible.
You may also want to visit Baby Center-they have a few ladies who lost a tube and conceived with out an AF (but they weren't treated with methotrexate)....they have a New Hopes section with success stories. If you want any further details feel free to PM me. I am on PAL normally but I am willing to answer any questions about recovery or conceiving you may have (or anyone else as well).
(((HUGE HUGS))) I hope you feel well soon.
