Success after IF

Success with poor egg quality..anyone?

Hi Ladies...I'm really feeling down and not very hopeful. RE says that average IVF for women with poor egg quality due to age is 5-6 times before you take a baby home. He then said its a 50/50 chance. I am 38 and moving forward with IVF #2 with "freeze all" cycle. Would love to hear success stories as I am feeling very discouraged tonight. xoxoxo

Re: Success with poor egg quality..anyone?

  • Do your eggs fertilize? Why are you doing a "freeze all"- progesterone levels, OHSS?

I ask because (and you can see my history in my sig) but I usually get a high number of eggs 20-38, but then only 3-4 make it to blast. Which is a huge blessing I know, but they aren't sure why that happens, egg quality or sperm quality. I just had my first beta today for a FET & it was positive. There is hope for you!

Sometimes this infertility "game" is about hanging in there long enough to keep going until it happens. 5-6 times sounds so daunting but if they are saying 50/50 chance then eventually, its going to happen. For a young woman with good eggs & a partner with good sperm & a normal uterus the chance is about 60%, so you're good!

    Hang in there.

  • @dmhrn13~ Hi!! Out of 9 eggs retrieved- 8 fertilized. 6 arrested on day 4, and 2 made it to early blastocyst. We then did PGD and now I thank GOD we did it. The two blastocysts? One only had 9 chromosomes which would have resulted in a miscarriage, and one was a trisomy21 which would have resulted in a Down Syndrome baby if I did not miscarry it during my second trimester! PGD gave me answers and lessened the heartache of miscarriages! Otherwise all is great- not even an IF diagnosis because we have only been actively trying for 2 months but because of my age I thought I would be proactive. Everything stellar with DH. I am having a freeze-all because of progesterone levels. Thank you for your support and best of luck to you <3
  • ((HUGS)) I'm sorry I don't have any advice.  I am DOR.  So, when I was doing IVF at the ages of 31 and 32, I had a really low number of eggs retrieved and usually only a few were mature.  Actually, I always had 4 mature eggs and 2-3 fertilize.  We didn't test any of them given there were so few.  We were finally successful on our third IVF cycle when we transferred 2 on day 2 with assisted hatching because that is all we had and I wanted to try something different (our previous cycles were blastocyst transfers).  Our third cycle was successful.

Good luck!  I know all of this is daunting.  I hope you find your miracle!

  • I am 37 , single ( donor sperm) and am pregnant off ivf # 2. I always had high egg retrival but few made it to transfer. This last time two were transfered and one stuck. I am 10 weeks pregnant, on high risk but doing very well. Hang in there! Its worth it!
