Feeling Scared and confused/cost of IVF

I am new to these board so I don't know all the lingo..sorry...We have been going through all the fertility testing mostly b/c I gyn suggested it b/c of my age (Just turned 35) and now we are uncovering all of these issues....My husband has 1% morphology and we just found out I likely have a heart shaped uterus. I have to get one more test to confirm next week. We don't have our consult until a week from monday and I am making myself crazy in the meantime..researching all these things. I am most concerned about the cost of these procedures. We recently switched to my husbands insurance which has a 5k lifetime max...I am guessing we have already hit that with all the testing we have been doing. Anyone know the average costs?

Re: Feeling Scared and confused/cost of IVF

  • Hi! I'm sorry you find yourself here. I'm not sure what treatment has been suggested, but IVF can be anywhere from $10K to $25K depending on the clinic. If you are using donor sperm and doing a monitored insemination then it is the cost of sperm ($300-800 per vial depending on the sperm bank) plus costs of ultrasounds, bloodwork and then the insemination itself, usually $2K + give or take per try. Some procedures don't seem to land under IF so good to submit it all. Good luck :)

  • Thanks. I dont really know what we are doing either until we go back again, which is part of what is making me nuts! I think they can use his sperm but the dr. said it is very unlikely we could conceive naturally or with IUI.....so I just assume that means IVF....
I didn't think about some of these procedures not landing under IVF so that might makes a difference. I think I need to try to just wait and see what he says in two weeks.

  • Makes sense. If you are planning to use his sperm they will likely do a procedure called ICSI, where they inject the sperm directly into your egg, which requires literally 1 sperm per egg. Best of luck.

  • I did an ivf treatment and it was $15k without meds and they were about $5k and ended up with a BFN.  I am now adopting.  I had an emotional journey while going through IVF.  The weekly visits to test and check to see if I was ready for the treatment. (I lived 2 hours away from the clinic).  We began the treatments in Aug of 2010 and Feb 2011 was implanted with two wonderful embryos.  I was given a 75% chance of implanting one successfully and it didn't happen.  To me, all the hormones and medicines really effected me.

If I had it to do over again knowing what I know now, I would have went straight to adoption.  I pray it works out for you all.  ***Baby Dust and BFP for all***
  • SO we found out some great news....our insurance will cover the IVF! Such a weight off our shoulders. We are going on Monday for our final consult. Hopefully we will have a better plan then.
    Thanks everyone!
