Re: Book recommendation ......1st time mom

  • My SIL who has 3 kids gave my DH and I the "what to expect first 12 months" and she said its great. I've just started reading it. She also recommended for me "the happiest baby" but I haven't bought it yet. I'm also a FTM and am clueless. Ha. Best of luck!

  • I am a FTM and felt so much better after reading Heading Home with Your Newborn: From birth to reality. It covers all of the basics: bathing, feeding, taking care of umbilical cord, etc.

  • I've stayed away from pregnancy books because they make me anxious.  But as far as parenting goes, I've been reading Bringing Up Bebe and I LOVE it!
  • Happiest Baby on the Block saved me when DS1 was tiny. For the other things, we took a few classes at the hospital.

  • FTM here too! I have The Contented Little Baby. The newer version is more geared towards breastfeeding, if that's what you've decided to do. But I LOVE this book. It gave me charts on when to feed, how much to feed, what foods to introduce when, colic tips, reflex tips, you name it! I highly recommend!

  • I went with one of the books from the American Academy of Pediatrics- your baby birth to age 5 so I will have it for a while.  I trust information from them.  For much quicker reading Baby 411 is great.

Loved this book!  I also had MH watch the DVD (got it on Netflix) of the same name with me about a month before our son was born.  It was great!  He remembered lots of the tips and was able to really help.

  • I also got Heading Home with Your Newborn: from birth to reality. I read it cover to cover. I had originally bought What th Expect in the First Year and hated it. That was so busy and disjointed you couldn't even sit and read it. I would highly recommend the first book I mentioned. Written by doctors of the Amerixan Pediatrics Society.
  • thanks everyone!!!!!!

sounds like i have some downloading to do on my nook app lol

    thanks again

  • I didn't have time to read any of the parenting books once Montgomery was born and I was too busy reading pregnancy books when I was pregnant.  Here is a book I HIGHLY recommend for breastfeeding/pumping and getting your supply up.  It's like a golden miracle book. I went from producing 25-30 oz aday to 40 oz a day after reading this book…. To put in into perspective, He ate about 25 oz per day usually so I could freeze the rest, it’s how I ended up with 1,500 oz of BM in our freezer…My OB called me a dairy cow…. https://www.amazon.com/Mother-Food-Breastfeeding-Lactogenic-Depression/dp/0979599504/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1389119710&sr=8-1&keywords=motherfood
