Multiples

How are all the moms with toddler/older multiples doing? How's life going now?

I haven't posted in forever but I was wondering how all the moms with toddler twins are doing? My boys will be two in June. How is life going now that you're twins are older? I think it's getting better and I really hope that we'll have a great summer. The weather is terrible and it feels like -14 today. I have terrible cabin fever and the winter blues are getting to me. I think I just wanted to hear from some moms with toddler/older twins. No one really posts anymore.

  • So much better, easier, more awesome and more fun.
They are starting to really interact and actually play together, and be really sweet and caring towards each other. And they listen to us so much better too. It's awesome

My girls are 28m and I also have an almost 4yo. While some things are getting easier like scheduling, being able to take them to a few more places, sleep etc, things are getting harder too like major tantrums, discipline, constant sibling fighting! It's tough! While I think this summer will be the best one yet because they can understand better, climb things better etc. twins are no piece of cake that is for damn sure! Major cabin fever here too

  • Today was a nice day and we spent more time outside today than we have in the entire last month! Twins are 16 months, and some things are easier, but it's still trying. They're just now discovering tantrums and while we haven't had any major issues, I can only imagine what's coming up! I agree, I think this summer will be lots of fun and am looking forward to it.
  • We are definitely in the 2 yr old temper tantrum stage.
They started speech therapy about a month ago and that seems to be really helping with the verbal skills and less frustration from them when I can't understand what one of them may be trying to tell me. A is very speech delayed and B is her interpreter. It's like trying to decipher Gruel's minion-ese.

Lately they have started refusing a nap, even though they are so cranky mid day. They still fight each other over me when I sit down but then it turns into a big giggle fest. Just this past week they have started to hug each other when I tell them they need to say they are sorry to each other.
I am praying they don't completely flip out on me when their baby brother gets home from the NICU.
And I've made a small attempt at introducing the potty to them and they are both terrified. I sure hope that changes soon.

  • Thanks for posting this check-in.

My girls are 25 months and my son is 4 1/2. Life has gotten consistently better since the girls turned 4 months. They are at the absolutely cutest stage right now. Sure, there are tantrums and they can fight with the best of them, but they are talking up a storm and the differences in their personalities are really starting to become apparent. Plus, as they get older, I can take all 3 kids to do fun things (indoor playground, library, etc.) and they are close enough in age that everyone has a good time.

I would never have chosen to have 3 kids in such a short time, but I'm starting to see the benefits. It is exhausting though. I go to bed early almost every night and have no trouble falling asleep!

  • My boys are 18 months and things are much better. They play well, love on each other and us, and get into lots of mischief. I just caught them in their sisters room. They had climbed over the baby gate! Always an adventure. They sleep better for the most part but with only one nap there isn't much of a break.

I am looking forward to warmer weather too though the thought of chasing them around outside exhausts me! It ought to be interesting that's for sure!

  • My boys are 3 and this is my favorite age so far. Probably because I'm a SAHM and my kids are in preschool 3x a week. FREEEEEEEEEDOM! we also have speech therapy 2x a week, mostly for DS2 but both kids go. Our weather has been awful so we're also going stir crazy. Otherwise I'm loving my kids being a bit more independent and interactive/imaginative.
  • My boys are 3- and by far this is the most difficult age for me.  They were great babies (STTN at 12 wks, great nappers, good eaters) no "terrible twos"- While they were climbers- now they are demanding, aggressive with each other, etc.  I am so ready for this age to be over. They do go to preschool together 2 days a week 2 hrs in the mornings and Nick goes 5 days a week in the afternoons for 2.5 hours for his speech delay.  So I am getting me time- but I am not loving this age.
  • My girls are 16 months and we are having a blast. I'm finding my shoes in cabinets, my cell phone in the bottom of the hamper and blocks in my boots! :) They are so busy and independent, yet still so sweet and cuddly. They play really sweet together. I think they had one of those twin secret conversations the other day and it seemed to result in a cheese-for-cracker trade! :)

  • Oh you guys have made my day reading this.  There is light at the end of this tunnel?? My girls are almost 4 mo and it has been one rough winter!  I kept telling myself things would get better as they got older.  Glad to know this is actually true!!

3 has been challenging for my (singleton) oldest, so I'm not particularly looking Forward to it w the twins. Now that he's almost 4, we seem to be turning a corner, but it was rough there for a while.

I still think my least favorite stage was 12-20mo, which is an age most people like. My big one was a late talker and didn't have a good way to express himself and he was into everything. It was exhausting.

  • Approaching two is such a fun and frustrating age! My oldest is doing really well in speech therapy and I think we will be discharged soon. Now that he finally has some words to express what he wants we are having fewer tantrums. My youngest just started singing and repeats anything and everything he hears. They are such sponges at this age!

  • My girls turned 2 in October.

I'm not going to lie.  Some days are so hard.  But others are so easy.  The girls play together all the time.  We are going through a jealousy stage right now which is why some days are harder than others.

  • Mine are 19 months today. Life is getting...crazier. Lol. They have realized they can climb just about anything and do!
They are both starting to talk a little more....my son more than my daughter.
Just always fun and entertaining. :-)

I'm finding blocks in my boots too LOL!! Mine aren't quite "toddlers" yet (though they toddle :) ) but it is definitely a different era than the infancy stage. They are very busy, active, little guys who are into.everything.
