Winter stuff for NEXT year??

Is anyone considering getting some winter gear for LO (for next year) when everything goes on sale soon?  Or have you bought for future seasons in the past?

Any guesses as to how many sizes to jump?  DD started wearing 18 month clothes (for the most part) a few weeks ago, and I'm grabbing some 24 month stuff for summer (anticipating I may need 2T before summer comes to an end).  I would love to snag a cheap columbia or north face coat in the next month or two - thinking about getting a 3T and hoping for the best... I wish I could predict her growth!!

Anyone else?

  • Buying for spring summer now. If I happen to see something in 2T on sale that I like, I'll probably get it. But only if it's on sale because I need to focus on summer now.
I've gotten a lot if stuff of eBay and on old navy's clearance racks. She has plenty of summer dresses, though she might need more in 2T, but with dresses I don't think it matters.

  • I went to Kohl's like a month ago and they had snow suits 70% off, I definitely bought one. I got it in a 3T because my child is sturdy to say the least and in 24 months now. Plus I figure I can just layer him up if it's too big but it'll definitely fit all next winter.
This might help but I'm not sure how accurate it is. I read that toddlers between 1 to 2 years on average gain 5 lbs and grow 4 to 5 inches?
  • I'm totally the opposite! DS is in mostly 18 m clothes now, though he just sized up to 24 m in footed pjs. I was just buying some 24 m winter stuff for DS b/c I'm betting he'll have a growth spurt before the warmer weather, and I don't want to be stuck again with nothing to put him in. If the stores weren't changing over to their summer/spring lines, I'd just wait until he had the growth spurt and then buy the clothes. I really dislike that the stores change seasons so soon! It seems crazy (to me) to buy a swimsuit when there's a major snow storm sweeping the coast. I'd rather buy for the season that it is outside, as you never know when they're going to have growth spurts or slow down in growth.

That being said, if I *had* to buy a winter coat for next year right now, I'd probably get a 3T. I'd consider a 4T b/c my LO is so big, but then again, they slow in growth as they age (right?) so I'd probably go with the 3T.
  • I've love to get new LO a coat, etc. since the smaller sizes (like 3 months) are always on super clearance.  But, we won't know boy vs. girl until mid-May.  I guess I could do gender neutral again (DD's is chocolate brown).... Maybe I'll go looking. :)

  • I tried to be super smart/prepared and found an awesome 'snowboarding' jacket for DS on sale 60% of lowest marked price - $45 orig, paid $12. I got a 2T thinking I'd set it aside for last year since he's in 12m right now. Tried on his 12m coat his auntie bought him... stupid sleeves ended just below his elbows. The new 2T coat fits perfectly though. So now I will just wait and see where he is next season.

  • I got dd a 2t coat for next year, it was in clearance at target for $10 and I bought a few hats and gloves at children's place for .99 each. She is still in 12 month clothes, she can wear 18 months but they are a little big, so I'm hoping it fits her. If it doesn't it was only $10 and I'll resell it on a local consignment page on Facebook.

  • Oh last summer I bought dd a bunch of 18 month summer clothes, I tried them on her because we are going to fl next week, yay and they fit her. Awesome because they were all under $3 a piece at kohls! A few of the shorts are a little big in the wAist but she can still get away with wearing them. So I am a big fan of buying on clearance for next season.

  • I know its very popular to do this and I can see where it makes a lot of sense but I've never done it with my kids and I'm very glad I didn't due to their growth spurts and sizing I would have been screwed a lot of the time.  For example, my current almost 14 month old- she just started wearing underwear which means she can no longer fit into 12 month pants- she's now in 6 months pants with socks pulled up really high because they look like capris- so had I bought shorts in advance I would have bought 12-18 months and I would have been screwed!  The same thing happened with my older 2 when they made the switch from diapers to underwear- they dropped sizes.  Its definitely something to keep in the back of your mind because if not now but in the coming months your child may be interested in PT and you wouldn't want bodysuits and you'd probably drop sizes too.  My middle child is a girl and she's very petite and although getting a coat for the next year would be great- I never can because I don't want to risk getting one that is too bulky.  The only thing I do ever pick up is when I see play khakis because those can be worn in spring, summer, fall and even winter.  I've found that I detest Kohl's & Carter brand cloths because they shrink a lot.  My favorite brand is oddly enough is from a grocery store called Meijer's- its their brand (Falls Creek)- they are made longer so the shirts I can usually get 2 years out of (which is NUTS)!!

Target has some things on clearance now, like long sleeve t-shirts. I picked up some for $2.50 each. I bought 2T long sleeve shirts for next winter.

In my experience, once they get to the bigger sizes and sizes running 2T, 3T, 4T, it's a bit easier to pick up a few things in the next size up considering they get more use than the smaller sizes.  Due to our warm weather, I always stock up on summer stuff because it's warm for us year round and they get lots of wear out of them.
