Hey everyone. They are keeping me very busy with trying to visit the little guy and having my own recovery care. I feel like I have a packed schedule trying to get everything in! But I wanted to do a medical update.
First things first - his name is William Gregory. He just looked like a Will to us. All previous names went out the window when he was born and my H decided he really wanted him to have his name (Gregory). It was so sweet.
Cardiology is very enthusiastic about his heart. His oxygen saturation is still holding normal and should through surgery. Everything looks awesome and he even got an 8 on his first Apgar. They saw an additional ASD, but the doc says it's no big deal and common even in heart healthy babies. It won't change a thing and surgery is still planned for 4-6 months. His hemophilia testing also came back negative. Yay!! (Not sure if I even told you ladies I was potentially a carrier.) So if only for his heart, we would be able to take him home tomorrow.
He's still sorting out blood sugar and feeding, but neither is abnormal for his age. He's got a central line for the blood sugar and a feeding tube. Both are already getting better and feeding will improve a ton as he wakes up. He actually opened his eyes for me for the first time last night. It was so sweet. I've tried to breast feed him a couple of times and he latched on last night. I don't have any milk yet but I'm pumping my heart out! It's tough because I can't do skin to skin because of his central line but I've tried to give him as many cuddles as possible.
The nurses here are so efficient. It's hard to get used to. They are amazing but first priority is his health, and mom's worries and knowledge isn't always thought of. It's how it should be in a level III nursery, so I'm looking forward to when he can move down and I can be a bit more involved.
I really love him, I'm just counting down to when I can get up and go try feeding again.
What a great update! Hope he continues on this path so he moves to the next level soon! Can't wait to hear more, love the name btw! Congrats again!! (( :
Congratulations on your precious little guy. I was happy to read a positive medical update. Hopefully soon they'll move him down to Level II so you can be more involved.
Congratulations! He is adorable and I love the name!!!
