1st Trimester

Boy or Girl?

I know that it is way too early for most of us to know the sex of our babies, but I'm wondering if anyone has a strong feeling either way? And for those of you that already have children or are further along; were your instincts right about what you were/are having? Also, do you believe in old wives tales, and does that factor in at all? I have a feeling that I will have a boy. I keep referring to the baby as "him" or "he". I will be shocked if I have a girl! I also apologize if this has been asked before.

Re: Boy or Girl?

  • Before I found out what I was having, I would feel like I was having a girl one day then a boy the next.  I had dreams about both sexes.

I don't believe in any of the OWT, if any of them were actually true they wouldn't be called OWT anymore now would they?

I would try not to call your baby a "he" or "she" until you know... You're setting yourself up for disappointment by doing that.  Just have fun guessing, but try to remember that it's 50/50.

  • 1st trimester is too early to be sure of the sex.  We were told boy at 12 weeks (it's just way too early - they all look the same at that point).  The OWT and Chinese Gender crap thing all said boy.

I had very strong feelings and lots of dreams about this LO being a girl (even after being told boy - I had a dream that I was getting mad at people for dressing LO like a boy when she was clearly a girl).

End of story, we are, in fact, having a little girl!  So my instincts/gut feeling were right.  Everything else was wrong.

I wouldn't be disappointed with a girl at all, though. That has always been H and my preference for our first, but I will be delighted either way.

  • Your "feelings" have a 50/50 chance at being right. I was "wrong" with my first born and "right" with my second.

Well I guess it's a good thing that I will be delighted either way. It will be interesting to see. My feelings may change as I get further along, too.

  • When I first got pregnant, my gut was that he would be a boy.  Then everyone else said I would have a girl and it made me start thinking maybe I would have a girl.  But my instinct was right and he is a boy.  I didn't try any of the OWT though.  I do know that mine always had a higher heart rate (which according to the OWT, indicates a girl).
  • I was convinced That id be having a girl... I'm having a boy all OWT were a mix of the two some said boy some said girl
  • With my DS, I did have one dream that I had this huge baby boy. And he did turn out to be almost 9 lbs and he is still 95 percentile for height as a 3 year old. I don't normally believe in that kind of thing, but my dream was right! I haven't had any dreams about this baby so far... the pregnancy seems different - more nausea - but that doesn't mean anything.

  • My intuition was right for all my pg. I'm not sure I think it's anything more than dumb luck.

  • Based on when we had sex vs. when we ovulated, it could be a little more likely to be a girl (I'm not sure how accurate this is, I've never looked for studies. But theoretically sex close to ovulation is more likely to be a boy as Y-sperm are faster, and sex further away from ovulation is likely to be X-sperm as X-sperm are more hardy).  I kind of think it's going to be a girl based on that, but obviously I'm not going to be surprised if it's a boy :)

  • With my first I felt like I was having a girl, but had very vivid dreams about having boys.  I had a girl.  I didn't feel stronger about either sex with my second and had another girl. Statistic show that the only time you are more likely to have a girl than a boy is after 2 girls...so I'm pretty sure this will be DD#3!  Chinese gender predictor said boy for my first, girl for 2nd and my symptoms and how I carried were different for both girls.  It's a crap shoot!

  • I was sure it was a boy, I just felt it in my gut. Last 2 ultrasounds showed us our girl.

  • I feel like I am having a boy, but only at 6 weeks that's way too early for any test besides OWTs. :) I have had about 5 dreams and all about a boy... we shall see in 10-14 weeks :).

  • Still really early no idea. My hub keeps saying "she" but don't think there is any merit to that. With DS I did "feel" that he was a boy pretty early on for some reason but w #2 no idea so far.
  • I felt I was having a boy first n I did n now I feel that I will have a girl... even based on wise tales
  • With my first, my instinct thought "boy" and I was correct.  This time around I don't have a feeling either way...although i'm very early into the 1st tri right now

This. This is why I am leaning more towards a girl. Supposedly Y sperm are fast, but weak - X sperm are fat and slow, but resiliant. I know the exact date I got pregnant - when I ovulated 4 days after the last time we had sex. Chances are better it's a girl - though not 100%, so I'm going with a girl guess. Plus DH comes from a family of all boys, and all of our friends who have had babies recently have had boys, and he's always bragging about how he can't wait to have a son - so, of course, it would only be funny if it was a girl. :D

  • I've always had a feeling that my first would be a girl. My husband is hoping for a boy and keeps calling it "he". I just want a healthy pregnancy & baby.

  • I had pretty strong feelings that both kids were going to be boys. And they are lol
  • I really feel this one is a boy.  My first three I was so incredibly sick from about 4 1/2 weeks on.  I'm only 5w1d, but I haven't had a bit of sickness.  I'm going to say a boy, but heck, I thought I couldn't have anymore kids (I had my tubes tied).

I had a strong feeling with DS1 that he was a boy. It started around twelve weeks. I remember biting my moms head off when she said she hoped it was a girl. I kind of did, too but my mothers instinct kicked and I was super protective over my possible son-to-be. After I had a few boy dreams, and found out baby boy at my 16 week scan. With DS, I kind of thought boy, but no strong feelings. :)
