sippy cup....who has started using?

Forgive me if this has been discussed. I tried the search from my phone and didn't see a post like this.

Just wondering if anyone has started to introduce/use sippy cups? I am considering to start but I have no clue which ones to use. Thing have changed since dd2 was using them years ago.

So please recommend your sippy if you have started using. Why do you like them? Have you tried others? What didn't you like about them?

Thanks ladies!

  • We just bought this one the other day, I like that it has handles on it...
As I recall DS1's favorite sippy was the one with the handles so we will try it out :)

  • We tried several sippy cups but she didn't like any of them (no surprise, as she doesn't take a bottle).  We have been using this straw cup and she loves it.  There's a bit of a learning curve for the straw cups but she picked it up pretty quickly and is now rather adept at using it.

  • We have a nuby one with a straw. He figured it out quickly but also enjoys chewing it. We offer it at meals.
  • We have a Tommee Tipee one I've been giving him to play with since he was 4 months.
  • we tried the nuby one. He sucked it down like it was a fast flow bottle. I bought reflo cups instead. I like them better even though they are messier and I wish they had handles, but it will teach him to actually drink from a cup.

  • We use a sippy cup at meal time. I think it's a nuby. It has 2 handles and a soft nipple. DS will take drinks from it but mostly bites it, drives it like a car, or throws it.

  • Ty stole his cousins sippy cup on Christmas and starting chugging it. I hadn't thought of introducing one yet but since he showed interest I bought him his own.
He uses nuby brand. It has handles and is easy for him to hold. I offer it to him several times a day.
I ebf and he has never taken a bottle very well. Maybe 10 times ever... So I was surprised he liked the sippy cup so much.
  • We like the Nuby ones too. E loves water but I don't give it to him everyday.
  • We have a Dr. Brown's with handles. He chews on the sippy and then he throws it. He likes to drink out of our water bottles or a cup.

  • We are skipping the sippy cup and going right to straw. We have the Playtex one with handles. So far DD does not know what to do with it but we are working on it.
  • Ours are Nuby. I put water in them at dinner time he drinks a little bit but mostly just knaws on the sippy and drops it on the floor for fun.

  • We have the nuby one. Ds gets so excited when he sees it that he actually starts shaking. We have been giving it a couple days a week since Christmas but only recently started being able to drink much from it.

  • We have a Dr. Brown's and an Avent.  P hasn't really gotten the hang of either one yet.
  • We started with the sippy once LO started with solids. We tried a Playtex one first, but she mainly just chewed on the spout. We now use the Nuby one and she seems to like that one much better and actually drinks from it. We have the Nuby with the straw as well but she doesn't know what to do with it just yet.
  • We give it to El every evening when she eats her dinner just to try. Most of the time she doesn't get anything out of it, but she's beginning to understand what it's all about and she gets excited to see it now!

  • We use Tommie tippy and she lo es them... she also loves to drink from our cup
  • Yup.  We're using a Dr. Brown's one.  I like that it has handles and it doesn't leak.  D.d. took to it well too; figured it out right away.  I haven't tried others, just this one as just a cup w/o everything screwed on, and as a sippy cup.
  • meh, haven't started the sippy yet because he's not doing many solids so no real need for water yet. will probably start offering him some in a month or so, when he's eating more solids.

  • We started offering a sippy during meal time- I think it's a Tommy Tippee without handles.  At first she just loved to chew on the rubbery spout, and then make horrible faces when water got through, but now she likes taking a couple gulps here and there.  I think I am going to switch it up soon with a regular sippy cup and straw cup to keep her on her toes! haha.

  • Awesome sauce! Thanks for all the recommendations. I think I will try the nuby and go from there. I used nuby with the other kids but again things change so much over the years.

For those using the straw ones do your LOs "get" that they need to suck? Dd2 had a hard time with that when she was younger.
  • We have the playtex one. I just ordered the playtex one with the straw. He drinks from the sippy cup and he also figured out my camel back so I figured a straw would probably be pretty easy for him.
  • Going straight to a straw cup here as well. Got one off zulily called Simba, it's nice. Has a little ball in it that falls to where the liquid is. They are currently on sale there right now. LO also takes sips out of my regular cups.

  • I read the heading for this thread and figured hey why not! I just gave ds2 his first sippy cup 15 minutes ago with formula in it. He liked it. The pedi said we could start using them when he started holding his own bottle. I didn't feel like waiting.

I use avent blue and green cups for 4 months and up. The flow is similar to his bottle and it's easy to grip.
  • Yup. We have the avent starter. He loves it.
  • We are trying here and there. He's a fan of chewing the spout but not getting the concept of drinking from it. We have avent and just bought a dr browns training one. He hasn't tried that one yet. We shall see!
