Apartment's flooded :(

About to leave for prenatal class tonight, and DH heard a dripping sound... Then it started gushing.. Pipe burst a couple floors up. Water everywhere.. Luckily most of our stuff was ok but since there was so much water pooled on the floor everything needs to be moved out so they can Reno new floors/drywall... It'll probably take a couple months at the least and this baby is due in 4 weeks. Newborn in a hotel room was not in my dreams of taking baby home

And we had just set up baby's crib...
I'm still in shock and tryin not to think about it or I'm going to cry

I'm grateful everyone is ok and my photo albums and important things weren't damaged, but just sad and shocked

I am so sorry. Thoughts and prayers!!! Just remember, wherever you are, the baby won't care as long as it's got you.

Oh no! I'm so sorry! I'm glad all the important stuff was ok, but I totally understand your disappointment. I agree with PP about looking for a short term rental. I don't know where you live, but maybe an off season vacation rental? Hopefully it will be covered.

I'm sorry this happened to you guys! We had a house flood in late sept/early oct and had to replace all the flooring in our house. It took about a month to get it fixed, which I was told was pretty good. We actually would have had it done it sooner, but our insurance check was delivered to our neighbor, who didn't get it to us for almost 5 days. Thanks, neighbor. Could you talk to your landlord (i you rent the apt) about trying to expedite the process?? Good luck!

Ugh, thats a nightmare. I'm assuming you rent? At least you won't have to pay for the repairs. And at least it didn't happen a few weeks from now. No consolation at all, I know

I'm so sorry... that's terrible! Do the landlords have any other property that you could just move into instead? Hopefully at least you can do one of those "extended stay" type of hotels, where it has a separate living room/kitchen and closed off bedroom. I hope it's a quick fix!

Do you have renters insurance? If so, I would see if they cover either corporate housing or some other type of extended stay apt that's furnished. That way they can go after your landlord for reimbursement of any fees. I hope everything works out.

it means a lot to have extra support.
We own the condo, and we have our own insurance on top of whatever insurance will be paying for this (since it didn't start in our unit)
I'm still waiting for an adjustor to call back to see the details on what can get covered. I agree I'd much rather have a short term furnished rental place than a hotel.. We're close to Vancouver so there are lots of vacation type rentals around. But we have a big dog (Bernese mountain dog!) so that will limit where we can go.
Right now I'm staying with the inlaws (whom I love) but I don't think it's a solution for more than a couple of days...
Just hoping this thing is taken care of quickly. Keeping my fingers crossed.
