have you used a hotel babysitter?

We're going to a friend's wedding in June and are considering leaving LO with a babysitter that the hotel provides for the ceremony and reception.

Have any of you done this before? If so, would you do it again? Anything first-timers should be aware of?

I'm not totally comfortable leaving her with someone I don't know, but the only other options are that I miss the wedding and stay with her, we bring with her to the festivities, or we leave her in the US with someone we know for the week that we're gone (and I still plan to be BF at that point, so a week without her seems like a bad idea on many levels).

I'd take LO, but I'm not one to stay late at weddings anyway. If you're wanting to stay late and enjoy the party, maybe find someone somewhere like care .com? You still wouldn't know the person, but at least then you could pick who you wanted.

Do you have a friend you can bring with you to babysit? Before I had kids I traveled with a friend to watch her 2 kids in the hotel while they went to the wedding. She paid for me and my DH (bf at the time) to have a room as payment and we got to visit Nashville during the trip. Win win

The more I think about this, the less comfortable I am with it. I'll probably end up bringing LO to the festivities with us and ducking out as necessary.. that our hanging out in our room while things are going on.

It's a small wedding in Colombia, so while I'd love to bring a friend to kick it with LO while we celebrate, transportation, food, and accommodations for the week would be too much for a few hours of babysitting.

Nope, wouldn't do this in Colombia for sure. Just heard an interview on NPR the other day with a lady who wrote a book about how bad kidnappings are there... I hate to be that paranoid American, but that shit is scary.

I was in a wedding in Dominican in November and we just left the wedding early when LO started getting tired and fussy. I personally wouldn't leave him with someone I dont know.

We are going out if town for a wedding next month and paying for my mom to come as well to watch DD while we are at the wedding because no kids are allowed. I'm not thrilled at spending extra money but told DH I wouldn't go without DD so this was our best solution. GL !

I don't know about Columbia, but some of the nicer hotels in the States offer babysitting, and usually there is more than one child and more than one babysitter, and they stay on hotel grounds and offer activities. I would be okay with that I think, but not sure about going into the night in Columbia.

Oh no I wouldn't bring a sitter for a week in Columbia! When I was the traveling sitter we just went from Atlanta to Nashville for the weekend.

I like your idea to just bring LO and leave when necessary.

I'm pretty laid back and used to just going with things when traveling, but I've decided that I'm not comfortable leaving my kiddo for the evening. She'll come with us, or I'll sit out the festivities
