My LO is 5 weeks now and has been so fussy lately. Mainly after feedings. Normally I will feed her and she will either fall asleep or just be a happy baby. Is this just a "fussy stage" or should I treat her for gas problems? I sit her upright after ever feeding and burp her but that doesn't seem to help. Is there any home remedies or over the counter drops I should give her or should I consult her pedi first?
And let me just say... As a first time mom I am so thankful for The Bump! You ladies have been more helpful than you know
Re: Gas?
The scary part is it is also used as a non foaming agent in many industrial applications such as non foaming detergents, industrial fluids and lubricants and many other things, but it is harmless to ingest for humans.
At 5 weeks gas and bloating are somewhat normal. If you are able to burp her well during and after feeding and she is still fussy, I would not hesitate to try a little. Also slow flow nipples tend to help a lot also.
We have to give ours gas drops and he burps like a trucker during and after feedings even with slow flow nipples. We just bypassed giving them to him by themselves. We add 4-5 drops into his bottle when we mix his formula and it removes any bubbles from the formula in the bottle. This helped a lot. It's rare that we ever have to give them to him between feedings.
Like I said, DD hasn't had much gas problems except when she was about 1-2 months old. Before using the gripe water we would try gentle baby massage, moving her knees up toward her chest and gently rubbing her tummy with our hands. Sometimes it seemed to help, other times it didn't. GL!
