I officially accepted a new job this morning

I start March 10th and the role is back with the company I used to work for. Where I loved it but my division had been sold. This is truly fantastic news for me. More money, a shorter commute, a MUCH better work/life balance, a huge company with tons of room to move around and move up, and I am bonus elligible with a target 14% of my salary, which is a nice lump sum of cash to tackle home improvements and actually take a vacation..... swoon!!!!!!

This is such a good move for my family! I'm just thrilled

There is however one thing nagging at me and I am hoping you ladies can make me feel better. Molly's first birthday is coming up. It's a Monday and I had visions of pulling her from daycare, taking the day off and going somewhere like the childrens meuseum as a family....... Unfortunately having only been there 3 weeks I think that's off the table and it's making me so sad. I know it's such a silly thing to get hung up on, but it makes me feel like a bad mom

Oh and wouldn't you know it - I had my LEEP yesterday which I am pretty sure will put me right at my deductible for the year, just in time to change insurance..... go figure Damn Mr. Murphy

Huge congratulations on the new job!!!! It sounds amazing!!

Could you talk to your new employer about taking that day off ahead of time? I know we have done that for new employees when they let us know before they started.

Congrats that's great news! Just remind yourself..she wouldn't have a clue it was her bday. So celebrate when you get home and do something extra fun that weekend. Good luck on the new job!

Yay for a new job!!! Congratulations!!! If her birthday is Monday, I would just do a fun family day on Sunday. You will all enjoy it just as much. Then you always have Monday evening together too.

So, I totally get what you are saying. I last minute took off this past Monday to celebrate LO's bday. I guess just remind yourself that you are doing this for her. The day will stink for sure if you can't get off, but honestly little Molly won't realize it this year. Just get home as soon as you can, have a big family dinner, some cake and make the best of the time you have with her!

PS - could you use your lunch break to visit her at DC?

this is exactly what I have been telling myself!! THis job will give me the means to make her life a lot better

We wil do a big family outing on Sunday and I'm hoping I can work something out (a work from home day, or leave early etc.) to spend more of the day with her.

I admit I'm a HUGE sap with dates. I took my wedding anniversary off the first year it was on a monday so DH and I could have a special day.....But I just feel sad at the thought of her spending the day in daycare (even though I can say with certainty that those ladies LOVE her!)

Congrats on the new job! I, too, started a new job right before MY Molly (and Noah)'s first birthday. I hated not spending the day with them, but DH and I got them out of bed, sang happy birthday, and took them to daycare. They lookd ar us like we were loony. so the giod thing is, Molly probbaly wont realiE it is any different from any other day.

They had swim lessons that night and my purse was stolen out of the car while we were in the pool. I declared a do-over, and we celebrated their party day as if it was their REAL birthday.

Congratulations on the new job...it sounds super exciting! And I agree with the others - your daughter will have no idea whether you celebrate Sunday, Monday, or even the week before. The important thing is the fact that you are celebrating her precious life, and I'm sure it will be a wonderful celebration, no matter when it happens.

I would totally feel the same about missing her birthday, but I get that you wouldn't want to ask for the day off, I probably wouldn't want to either. I'd definitely celebrate on Sunday by going to the museum, but still make that Monday special with cupcakes and birthday hats or something like that. I don't know about you, but I love to stretch out my birthday over multiple days

I didn't celebrate DS's birthday on the day-of, as MH was out of the country. Of course, they don't know it's their first birthday, and she'll have just as much fun if you wait until Saturday. Don't feel bad- it's better to have negotiated for a higher salary, for sure!
