TTC after 35

Weekly Check-In

I changed up some questions this week :)

This check in is for anyone on the board.  There is a new check in for ladies over 40 but you are welcome to post both places if you want.  Please intro on the main board before checking in so we can "meet" you!

2.   How long have you been TTC?

3.  Are you seeking help with a fertility specialist ( RE)? If so where are you at?  Testing? Medicated cycles?  IUI? IVF?

4.  Where are you in your cycle?  ( Waiting to O, 2WW etc) If in the 2ww  when will you test? Experiencing any weird  "phantom" symptoms ladies in your 2ww?

5.  How do you feel about this cycle? (Are you hopeful, anxious... etc)

    2.   20 Months

    3.  We went straight to an RE at 6 months because that is standard when over 35.  I didn't want to waste my time with my OBGYN ( who I like a lot).  Best decision I ever made. You can see in my siggy all the treatments etc...

    4.  I finally got my period ( over a week late) after my cancelled IVF cycle.  It was so frustrating.  We are moving on to DEIVF.  If all goes well next month with the retrieval I will have a FET in April. ( we have to wait a month due to pgd testing) In the meantime

    5.  well this new cycle will be not eventful in my own body but feeling better about my chances of taking home a baby someday

    QOTW:
We are just going out to a nice dinner.  We don't exchange gifts.

TTC for approx a year…not tracking anything more than cycle the whole time until the last couple months when i realized this is harder than i thought it would be.
Not seeking help yet…..hubby isn't going for that just yet. He is of the attitude it happens on its own or nothing :( makes me sad not to try a little harder.
    CD15 - Waiting to O
I feel sort of oblivious. No expectations. Ive become numb sort of.

NO plans for V-day. We don't want to spend the $$ and honestly i have the oat thoughtful hubby. I don't need V-day…..i get flowers and little things randomly which i personally enjoy instead of waiting for this silly holiday.

    2. Since Mar/Apr 2012

    3.  Been seeing RE since Jul 2013 - paused on trying for 6 mos in 2012 due to DH knee surgery and my starting a new job...should have seen RE sooner but thought it would happen...have done 3 rounds of Clomid/Trigger/IUI (monitored) and currently on IVF #2

    4.  I am on D5 of stims, D6 of cycle.  B/W and U/S this morning - E2 is very good at 298.  I have 15 follicles growing, none over 10mm yet but they feel good about where I am.  Next check is Friday.

    5.  Trying to be cautiously optimistic.  I am not as freaked out by it as this is my 2nd time at this rodeo but because of that I am nervous/anxious it won't work again.  Am also really hoping we get enough to freeze for the future - only 1 frozen last cycle.

    QOTW:
No big plans - going to our fave restaurant for dinner.  And exchanging cards.  I told DH no gifts this year since we are spending a fortune on IVF.

  • Hi ladies-- just did a quick intro, so I hope it's ok that I check in here :)

    1. Your Name or Screen Name ( not full names) and State you are from

    sunflwra/Andrea, Texas

    2. How long have you been TTC?

    First cycle post loss

    3. Are you seeking help with a fertility specialist ( RE)? If so where are you at? Testing? Medicated cycles? IUI? IVF?

Nothing yet. Haven't had issues getting pregnant but this pregnancy will be a bit different I'm sure bc of the loss.

    4. Where are you in your cycle? ( Waiting to O, 2WW etc) If in the 2ww when will you test? Experiencing any weird "phantom" symptoms ladies in your 2ww?

2ww- planning to test next weekend.  Just O'd a few days ago so no phantom symptoms yet!

    5. How do you feel about this cycle? (Are you hopeful, anxious... etc)

Hopeful. My OPKs were weird and I missed my hard positive, so I'm guesstimating my O on Saturday.  Did the deed Friday, Sunday and Monday, so hoping that did the trick!

    QOTW:
What are your Valentines Day plans?

None- we are total losers and I hate venturing out on that evening, so it will be a quiet night at home :)

    BFP #1- 4/2011; DD Brynn born 12/2011

BFP #2- 7/13; EDD- 4/2/14; Lost DS at 20 weeks (11/16/13) due to cord accident

BFP #3- 3/14; EDD- 11/28/14; Lost DD at 15 weeks (6/7/14)- cause unknown

To my angels- I held you every second of your lives and I'll love you every second of mine.

  • BeckyP005, can I ask why you went pretty much straight to DE?  I'll soon be the age you were then and I'm curious what led you to that decision vs trying an IVF cycle.  I'm still hoping that I can be successful with IVF and hopefully that is not a delusion on my part. I know I shouldn't compare myself with anyone, but sometimes we all are guilty while trying to grasp at straws.

  • Hang in there ladies!  TTC can be so difficult but so glad we are all here to support each other!
    Sorry if I forget anybody!

JimBobCooter  Good luck on your testing!  Keep us posted!

@KirstenAlecia    I understand about husbands not being ready. I know I had to explain to mine that the time to get some help at our age is actually at the 6 month mark. I know I had to have a heart to heart with my DH and explain to him what this meant.   I thjink he was scared to admit we might have a problem. Whatever you decide to do I wish you luck! I know it isn't easy.

@Lady2010 Good luck on your current IVF cycle!

BeckyP005  I think of you often.  You are the most patient woman!  I know it isn't by choice.  I am really rooting for you and hope you can get your cycle going pronto!  Now that I am doing DEIVF  I understand a smidge how the whole process is so out of your control and that is very difficult!

    sunflwra Welcome!

@PrivateOne hi! Number one reason was money. MH has been in big time debt before he met me and took him a long time to recover.

I know others spend thousands upon thousands but he said no. We figured if we had one shot at this it will be skipping over OE IVF and straight to donor egg. We couldn't do both if needed. Sitting in the RE that morning I totally accepted DE. I just wanted a baby and it also helped that I had a very close friend also doing DE after her 2 failed IVF's.

Do I get sad sometimes and think how the baby will not have my genes? Of course. I would be lying if I said no. If you visit TPR board and other blogs and forums of parent's that already have their DE baby they couldn't be happier!

Again..DE sadly doesn't always work on first try either. Did I make any sense? Lol. You are not delusional. I guess you need to consider your age and money situation? Would you ever consider DE? What about YH? I apologize I've been on mobile for many days and can't see siggies. Did you do 2 ivf cycles? I'm sorry I can't remember!!! :: bangs head on desk ::

  • @BeckyP005 - We were attempting IVF #2 when I got the surprise bfp at my baseline.  It ended up being an early loss though and we also lost out on doing our second IVF as of course it was immediately cancelled.  Since this is now two bfps that were short lived, I am even more worried about my egg quality.  I also think over the years of naturally trying, I think I prolly had other early losses and didn't know it.  There were times when AF was 5-6 days late and I foolishly never tested. I am very regular and I attributed it back then to my thyroid being off as I have Hashimoto's Hypothroidism and when my TSH is off stuff like that happens. We do want to continue with IVFs for now and have not even discussed DE. That is most likely because my RE has not brought it up yet.  He still believes we are ok and will find success.  We actually have a wtf appointment with him today and there's lots I want to discuss.  I feel I need RPL testing done. Also, we had decided to skip PGD testing with this 2nd IVF and just see what happens, but now I am convinced we need to do it and perhaps bank for a few cycles.  I want my eggs out now so they can't age anymore :)

The money is always an issue.  We are still prepared to spend more in hopes of achieving success, though.  I hope I don't end up in a position where we spend a boat load on several IVFs and then have to move on to something else which would mean even more OOP.  A little side note, I am actually adopted, so I know first hand about not being raised by your biological parents. I have also gone on to meet my birth mother and several of her family members (which in effect are my family).

Bottom line is this is all so personal and we all have to make the best decision we can for ourselves given our circumstances.

I'm disgusted and so fucking mad at MH. Last night we were bickering about something dealing with $ and told him fine..skip having a baby then and ran upstairs. I cried/sobbed so hard. This waiting to cycle I think has taken its toll on us.

  • BeckyP005   so sorry-  I know the stress of it all can be almost unbearable at times.  My husband and I don't argue very often... but when we do it is almost over $!  We prioritize differently :)  I am the more fiscally conservative one!  The amount of money we have/will spend on fertility treatments is mind blowing.

My RE is very pro single embryo transfer when doing pgd testing but will leave the decision to us.  He has an 80% success rate when doing a DEIVF
pgd tested single embryo FET.  He has a 95% success rate when transfering 2 DEIVF pgd tested embryos.  My husband wants twins badly and I am more on the fence. While I don't mind the idea of twins and I think I can handle it, I am also scared of the increased risks.  So all that to say is leaning towards transferring 2 but we won't decided until time to transfer. We will know the genders of our embryos so that is a whole other "discussion" we are having right now!

  • Haven't seen the over-40 check in, so I figured I would check in here!

I changed up some questions this week

This check in is for anyone on the board.  There is a new check in for ladies over 40 but you are welcome to post both places if you want.  Please intro on the main board before checking in so we can "meet" you!

    1. Your Name or Screen Name ( not full names)  and State you are from: ProcessofBecoming, New York

    2.   How long have you been TTC?: NTNP since October, gave it a real go last month, and got duped by a bad batch of Wondfos. My period came three days after the positive tests. Stupid Wondfos.

    3.  Are you seeking help with a fertility specialist ( RE)? If so where are you at?  Testing? Medicated cycles?  IUI? IVF? No, nothing right now. Crazy since I am 42. But I'm still comfortable with leaving this up to the fates.

    4.  Where are you in your cycle?  ( Waiting to O, 2WW etc) If in the 2ww  when will you test? Experiencing any weird  "phantom" symptoms ladies in your 2ww? A few days past O (I think). My son had croup and a double ear infection last week and I was also sick as hell. TTC was the last thing on my mind. I spent the week in the doctor's office, or with my eyes stuck to his monitor as he fitfully slept. So happy that the worst seems to have passed and he is himself again.

    5.  How do you feel about this cycle? (Are you hopeful, anxious... etc) We only DTD once, on O day, I believe. Chances are slim, which is fine. I'm tired this month!

  • Jaco0207 (Christina from Minnesota)

    TTC for about a year

I am working through my OB office, I looked into REs in my area, but I am comfortable and confident in my current clinic so far. My nurse practitioner worked in an RE clinic for many years. We are currently doing medicated IUIs, we have decided not to do IVF, so my Dr. is comfortable doing as many IUIs as we want. I was on clomid, but it was thinning my lining, so we switched to femera, and so far so good.

I am in the 2ww, and am getting nervous, always hopeful for a bfp, but I don't want to get too excited about the possibility...

DH now has the cold I had last weekend so we stayed in last night, made a nice dinner and chilled out.
Me: 40, Hypothyroidism, well managed, TSH 1.99
DH: 44 Fine except for low morphology
    TTC since 02/2013
    08/13: Day 3 tests (ESTRADIOL 20.8; AMH 1.1; FSH 6.2)
    12/13 HSG, all clear
    11/13-5/14 - IUIs #1-3, BFNs,
6/14 to present: Taking a break, getting healthier, researching IVF
Planning for IVF in late summer 2015
