Possible house?

What do you all think of this one, its a couple towns over from where we are now, but the schools are good etc… and its a good deal for the area and under our budget so we could put on an addition if needed in the future.

I am not sure we are getting its just the idea of the house I like. nothing has been done yet.. probably won't go for it. just an idea of what I like or could like.

I guess i did not think of it because I do not live there now and I have not given any personal info. If I could move that house to my town and not so much in the country. I would seriously consider it. It was an example. no big deal.

I guess i did not think of it because I do not live there now and I have not given any personal info. If I could move that house to my town and not so much in the country. I would seriously consider it. It was an example. no big deal.

It's as always surprising to me how much homes cost elsewhere! Our house is 3700 (I think) sq feet, 10 years old and we got it for 189k.

you also have 4 grown adults and a child.

We are very comfortable with 1600 sq feet and there are 4 of us and a dog. A lot depends on layout too

I think with 6 people in a home its not too much space. I would kill for a house that price, but I know its not going to happen here. we probably have to move an hour away to get more house for the money.

I'm always amazed by house sizes in other parts of the country! We're in somewhere between 1000-1100 SF and other than needing a third bedroom and second toilet I honestly don't feel cramped here. I've never lived in over 1500 SF so I guess it's all what you're used to.

I definitely believe I could "expand" to fill 4,000 SF given the opportunity lol! But having never been in that large a private home it just sounds enormous to me!

A 1200 sq foot house that was basically a tear down went for 1.6 million a few blocks away from DHs work. The housing market here is insane.

Mind boggled. I think it was Lala that said an empty lot went for hundreds of thousand dollars? I don't remember the specifics but think of it often, crazy crazy world.
I don't now if I said that specifically, but it's totally true depending on the area.

I think that was me. The house itself was destroyed in Sandy but the lot sold for close to $700K. It ended up being bought up by a builder who put a 3,000 SF house on it and is now asking $1.2M.

Sure, I could, too, but I don't think that's a good thing. I wouldn't want to anyway. The only way I see even living in something bigger than 22-2500 is if it had plenty of space (like full apartment) for a set of parents.

I totally agree. From an environmental perspective I just couldn't consider that large a home. If DH gets a job that will allow us to stay where we are we'll like buy my mom's house. It's a 1300 SF early 50s cape. We might eventually put a small addition on but possibly not. We could live comfortably there forever without it.

My memory sucks too lol! I will say the house being built in its place is really pretty. If only DH made $350K I would consider that house! Very pretty house, nice piece of property on the waterfront!

We do fine with four of us and a dog in our 1800 square foot house, but I sure wouldn't mind having a some more space. Over 3,000 sq. feet does seem massive to me.

It's always interesting to see homes in other parts of the country. From my perspective, the posted house is a steal for being that big on that large of a lot. I don't even know how many millions that house would sell for here.

Our house is 2700 but on 3 levels. Parts feel really big, like our huge basement, and we have a bedroom upstairs that is totally unused, but we could really use a mudroom or something on the main level to make it work better. Layout definitely makes a difference. I wouldn't want much bigger.

That's very true! We lived in 3 apartments in Manhattan. The one that had the smallest number of square feet was the least cramped by far. It's really amazing the difference layout makes!

That house (second one) is gorgeous! And so much land! Here we have some neighborhoods with what we call "Bigfoot" houses, but the yards are so tiny.....it's like McMansion encroaching on McMansion....I feel like a yard should be proportional to a house.

We're in a 1200 sq ft condo right now, and will definitely be outgrowing it in the next year or two, but I'm in no rush to have that much more house to clean....

Yep. Also it makes such a difference if a house has a basement or not, if it looks big from the road. Our house has a full basement so it doesn't look all that big from the outside but is spacious when you get inside.

Yes! One thought we have if we buy my mom's house is to finish the basement to gain living space without spending for a full renovation. We could put a nice sized family room down there without having to live through full construction.

That would be awesome! Our main floor has 6 rooms (one of them being the great room) in it but our basement has 3 rooms and it's soooo spacious! Hadley can ride her bike down there easily. Basements are awesome.

The only reason my mom hasn't finished it is that by the time she bought her house my sister had moved out, I was a senior in college and my brother was almost through HS, so there wasn't much point. I think it's the first thing we would do if life works out for us to buy it because otherwise the toys and TV will be in my living room as there's no family room and having spent the past two years with a separate family room I really like my living room staying neat!

I think it's a gorgeous house. Our house is almost the same size (3,000) sq ft. and it's an open floor plan, but that house looks bigger inside for some reason (maybe the angle of the pictures, they are pretty good at making rooms look a little bigger for real estate websites) or maybe just different layout.

This sounds greedy but I couldn't imagine being in a smaller house than we are now because maybe it's just my personality, but I need space! Our bedrooms aren't even that big except for the master. Two of our bedrooms are pretty darn small.
