I'm thinking of opening a small business in town - knit/crochet/yarn/crafting. DH is VERY supportive. I'm SCARED, so here's my first CPW. (Because I have to get the business case, funding and store up and running before I lose my mat leave pay in May)

Monster Truck (It's a GIRL!) is due 19/02/2015!

Yes, Goodpotato, follow your dream!
Goodpotato, you're an idiot. Keep your government pay and benefits!

I thought at first you meant a store where you would sell your items that you made, and I used to do that for a few years just out of the house (crochet items) but that "market" has become super saturated where I live and people sell their items for next to nothing just to compete with one another but they do it and don't realize they are only paying themselves like $3/hr.
Not worth it.
However, a crafting store to buy supplies could be a GREAT market if there are no/few others in your area- because like I said, many people are in to the crochet fad lately.
I think you should totally follow your dreams!!
Although this just made me think of something. I can apply for an additional year of unpaid leave from work and still have a job to go back to.... Maybe I should look into that!!!

Do it!!! I want to open a bakery some day... there isn't one in our town but I'm wondering if that's because no one would go there...
I'll live vicariously through you!
Not to be a Debbie Downer, but at my job if you're on leave you can't work elsewhere/make money by other means. Maybe it's different in Canada.

Yep it's different here.
So long as you're not drawing ei or anything.

It's different....my husband is currently on leave from his government job running his own company!!
I say go for it.....we have been going through this and my dh is much happier running his own business....sure, there are sacrifices, but it's all give and take, it's at least worth a shot.....
And something to consider.....there's a company down here that offers sewing classes for kids and it is hugely popular!!!! Good luck with it......
