Distracted nursers

Ughhhhh! Is there anything more frustrating? (Ok, I'm sure there is... But ykwim). He sucks for a max of 10 seconds and then pops off.
Sometimes he will start a let down and it will be shooting him in the face while he looks around. Nooooo, wasted milk!!! I used to be able to count on him nursing first thing in the morning, but he's too distracted during that time. Being a sahm & pumping during the day sucks!

Side note: every time I think "distractable nurser" it's to the tune of that dumb song, detachable penis. What a dumb song!!!!

Here's a photo of James rocking a pony tail if you made it this far.

Re: Distracted nursers

  • DS has been this way lately too and it sucks! Whenever he turns his head he takes my nipple with him. Ouch! I've been getting a lot of clogged ducts lately and I think it is because he is so distracted that he isn't emptying my breasts all the way.

  • The only reason I don't NIP is because he is such a distracted nurser. I can't even nurse in the couch. It has to be in the nursery or laying in bed in the MOTN. Thanks to the cold I haven't taken him out much. Even when I feed him solids I have to kick the cat out of the room because he wants to "talk" to her and not eat :(
  • If DH is around Ros just wants to smile at daddy. Eat child!

In the morning we can't nurse sidelying anymore because Ros wants to roll over and crawl around the bed. So I have to feed her sitting up so I can have better control over her little body. But I love nursing with her laying down in bed :'(

I know!! James used to fall asleep and snuggle this way. Not anymore :(
  • Yes! DH talking, the dog, the cat, the noise I didn't hear but DS apparently did..... It's hard to get a solid 5 minutes straight of nursing. Sometimes if I switch sides (I never used to) I can get him to eat another minute or two. I'd say my boobs aren't emptying like they used to and I've taken to pumping before bed (I SAH) to make sure my supply stays up.

  • DS is the same way. I could never NIP. I have to take him into a completely different room with no noise to get him to nurse. He wants to look at Daddy or his big fur sister.
  • Yes!! I don't have the milk spray issue though. Instead she pulls back while my nipple is still in her mouth. My poor stretched out nipples! I've been sore for a week now.

Poor DH. Anytime he comes near me I'm like, "Touch me not!"

  • Yes! At this stage I can only nurse in a quiet boring room with the door closed. NIP ends up being just a snack to tide her over until we get somewhere boring.

  • He's distracted constantly, and his new thing is to grab a handful of loose boob skin (there's plenty of it) and pump it up and down like a water pump while digging in his tiny claws.

  • Yep, many times we have to nurse in the darkened nursery--his big brother is way too entertaining to feed in the living room anymore.

  • This is the reason I end up nursing baby C a few times each night! He is just too distracted to eat during the day
