Sick again :(

Dudes, WTF? DD has been fussy all weekend and pushing away solids and fighting against taking bottles and today daycare called that she had a temp of 101.9. When I took her temp at 5:30, it was 103.3! She's so hot and uncomfortable and I tried giving her Tylenol and she puked. I tried giving her pedialyte and she just wasn't having it. I'm at my wit's end. My poor baby was almost over that cold she's had most of her life (weird to say but she's had a cold pretty much since she was 2 mo old) and now this. I knew it was inevitable, but I didn't really comprehend how much it would suck. :(

  • Try a cool bath, a cold wash rag on he forhead and back of the neck. Try calling the nurses line in the morning. They might have some suggestions on how to help her.

Hope the poor little lady feels better soon.

  • I tried a cool bath, tried cool damp washcloths, I have her in light pajamas... Nurse at doc's office said if fever reaches 105 to go to ER, but my cousin who is a nurse said 104. My friend's mom with no medical degree said I should've gone at 5:30 when I checked her temp and got 103.3... I gave her another dose of Tylenol and she's kept it down so if her temp doesn't lower then we're thinking we'll be going to the ER. :(

  • Uhhhh. I think id be going to the er. To the best of my knowledge 103 is high enough to cause brain damage. Harley is in my thoughts

  • Her temp was down all night but this morning it was up to 102.7. Seriously, this kid... She's all happy and smiles. I mean, thank god she's not insanely unhappy like a normal baby. But, Jesus, I can never figure out what it is that is causing the fevers!

  • Last time I went through this with DD it was ear infections.  Have you ruled that out?
  • Oh goodness, poor Harley :( I would go ahead and take her to the ER. When my DD was around that age (maybe a little younger) she was running that same level of fever and that's what I did. (Her's turned out to be a UTI caused by kidney reflux...but that's probably not the case with Harley since A wasn't puking or having any other symptoms). Good luck to you!!

  • Her temp is 100.4 now, last week she went in for a fever and her ears, throat, and urine were clean. I know that those can develop between then and now, but her last dose of Tylenol was at 530am and her temp is still going down. In about another hour or so I'm going to check again and maybe call the doc.

  • Hope it continues to go down. Its no fun watching your kid be sick

  • Looks like I'll be home tomorrow too :( she's still got a fever. Doc said its probably a gastro virus, since I had similar symptoms on Saturday.

  • If it makes you feel better my daughter is 2 1/2 and she has had a number of fevers in the 103 range and has hit 104 once or twice....if you get concerned call your on call pediatrician. Once they gave a high amount of Tylenol to just" bring it down. Also, mine always wants Popsicles so pedi lite has Popsicles.

    LOUD NOISES!

  • Lol, I haven't tried the popsicles. I had never given her anything cold until yesterday (the Pedialyte packet said to mix with cold water and serve cold) and she was like "dude, WTF?"

  • I just give pedialite straight.

  • I just give pedialite straight.
Me too.  DD doesn't care.  She doesn't even care if her bottles are cold.  I usually warm them first but in the middle of the night when she's freaking out because she wants a bottle NOW she usually gets a chilled one from the fridge.

And the nurse at the pedi's office said you can start with infant motrin and double the first dose if the fever is really high, then alternate tylenol and motrin every 4 hours.
  • Maybe I'll start making pedialyte luke warm for her, then. She's playing right now with the biggest grin on her face but when we woke up today, I could tell she's still got a pretty high fever. :(

  • She is over six months so you can give her infant ibiprophen
    image
  • Maybe just give it to her at room temp?  Is that what you were thinking?
  • Yeah, room temp. The doc gave me children's ibuprofen to try but said if Tylenol is working just fine then I can stick with that

  • Last temp read was 99.5, but I can't remember when I gave her Tylenol last. So the next time I change her, I'm going to take her temp again. This way I can be sure her temp is going down

  • Hope things keep improving

  • Guess who else is home today with a fever!  We have to go to the doctor, though, or she can't go back to day care tomorrow.  If it's something dumb like an ear infection she's good to go.  Hope Harley is feeling better.
  • Hope aria only has an ear infection and no rsv
