Water in humidifier?

  We have the Crane cool mist humidifier and started out using tap water. The crane is recommended to empty and wipe out daily to prevent buildup and clean weekly with vinegar to prevent mold. The daily empty and wipe down was not happening, so we switched to distilled water to help prevent buildup and clean it with vinegar when it needs new water (3-4 days for 1 gallon of distilled water and only running it at night.)

  We bought a special filter that fits in the crane animal humidifiers. We have hard water, so I try to use distilled water in our appliances (steam mop, iron, etc) but we were going through a lot of gallons, and I kept forgetting to buy more at the store. The filter has worked well.

  Where did you get the filter? Is it made by crane?

  Yes. DH just saw it in the store (I think he was at Target) next to the humidifiers. I hadn't even thought to try to look for one! Amazon has it as well. It is by Crane.

  Thanks guys! I used tap water. Ours doesn't have a filter. I just have to disinfect/vinegar cleanse it weekly. But that shouldn't be a problem! I didn't want to have to keep buying distilled water for it. What a pain!
