transition to crib

DD is 6 weeks old but we think we need to transition her to the crib. She is swaddled at night and we put her head near the top of the bassinet, but she manages to scoot down and wake herself up. Her feet have no where to go and they end up in the air. I have no idea how she does it, but I think if she had more space she would sleep longer. When did you transition to the crib? Did it go well? Any tips or advice.

I think it is like ripping off a band-aid, just do it and get it over with.  I thought the hardest part was seeing how little and lonely he looked in that big crib, but LO did just fine, it was really much harder for me to feel so far away from him.  I must confess I did put a blanket under him in the beginning while he was swaddled and I bunched up the sides of the blanket around him so he felt more cradled like he was used to in the swing.

We transitioned at 4 months since we had a cradle (a little larger). We did it all at once, but both boys actually slept better when we switched them over to the bigger bed.

I transitioned DD at 8 weeks bc she was such a noisy sleeper and I couldn't get any rest.  Here's what I did to help with the transition :
    - I put a towel under the mattress so she would be on a bit of an incline
    - I put a pillow case that I had slept on under her crib sheet
    - I warmed up her spot by putting a heating pad on low before she went down
    - I used a swaddle and white noise machine

We had a few rough nights, but it went better than I expected.  Just persevere through it and it will get better!

We transitioned DS to the crib at 10 weeks. We started with naps in the crib from the very beginning so he would be comfortable sleeping in there. At ten weeks he slept in the crib full-time. Oddly, I really felt like it made a big difference in everyone's sleep. We didn't wake up with every little sleeping coo and he didn't wake up because of us. DS room is on a different floor so it seemed like a very big deal. Good luck!
