Is a Target gift card appropriate?

I know, the answer is always yes lol If you read my family drama post you'll know someone is watching the boys while we're at DH's gma's wake (about 3 hours) and funeral (a couple hours). She may or may not be watching BIL/SIL's kids but what they choose to do is not my problem. This woman is the (grown) daughter of a friend of my ILs. I'm SURE she's not expecting to get paid and to offer her cash I think would just be awkward but I was thinking of a $50 Target card since who can't find shit they need or want there, right? Does that seem ok?

I think it's a great idea, since your BIL/SIL will probably not give her anything, you can discreetly give it to her without causing more drama.

Ok, gift card it is. They'll probably do nothing, not at all considering it to be real babysitting as if they had gone out for the night. But it is and I don't want to overlook that because she's saving me a major headache by me not having to bring the boys to the services.

I would never turn down a target gift card! Ok, yes I would but that's only because I'm probably too nice and do a ton of stuff for people and not expect anything in return.

I like gift cards because even though I could technically keep it for myself, it's like "I bought this for YOU. I already bought it, you have to take it!" lol Cash seems so...cold and people feel more compelled to try to decline it.

Also, it's awkward to count cash in front of people, but it's a nice surprise finding out how much is on a gift card!

See, normally I'd give my SIL a heads up that I was doing the GC and ask her if she wanted to go in on one together but I'm done dealing with them until this whole thing is over. They're adults and can do what they want.

Gift cards are always good for situations like that. I'm the crazy that keeps various denominations of Starbucks gift cards in my handbag around the holidays so I don't get caught in a awkward situation of no gift!
