Trying to Get Pregnant

Talk to me about Amazon Prime..

I was browsing yesterday's TWW thread while at work tonight which inspired my post..

If you have it, do you feel it's worth it? Why? What kinds of things do you get?

Do you not think it's worth it? Do you not use it enough?

Come in and tell me your stories... I brought snacks.

Re: Talk to me about Amazon Prime..

  • I absolutely love Amazon prime. 2 day shipping is fantastic. We order tons from amazon from clothing, to household items, sometimes food and tons of electronics. The best part is that if I order on Monday, it's usually at my door by Wednesday sometimes as early as Tuesday (I live near a distribution center I think). If you're a frequent amazon shopper prime is definitely worth it.

Free 2-day shipping on 30 pound bags of dog food and no worrying about when we'll have time for a trip to persmart. :)

Although sometimes my husband thinks it means he has free reign to buy whatever he wants.

    Edit: words. And grammar.
  • Love love love Prime! The two day shipping is fantastic and will even make me buy stuff online that I would normally go to the store for and it saves me a trip. I get about eighty percent of my Christmas shopping done through Amazon. I also linked my Amex so I can use my points for purchases. Finally, I have a kindle and it allows me to borrow one kindle book (from a limited list) per month. Definitely worth the cost.

  • Do it. It's amazing.

If you have an active .edu email address you can get a free trial (maybe a few months?), and then half priced membership for like 5 years. I think anyone can get at least a short free trial though.

In addition to free 2-day shipping, you don't have to place a minimum order to get free shipping (which saves money because I would have spent the extra $20, say, to get free shipping), and you get access to their video streaming, which is pretty good. It's not as good as Netflix, but in my brain I consider it to be free, so I love it.

We use it all the time! Biggest reason its money well spent-free two day shipping which comes in handy at Christmas and holiday times for last minute gifts. Other pluses-you can borrow e-books for free from the kindle library and you can get the kindle app for free for your phone, computer or ipad if you don't have a kindle. (kindle books are also cheaper then physical copies) We also use it for general shopping just because you get the free 2 day shipping which means half the time its at my house before I would have had time to go to store searching for it, and probably cheaper too. And lastly, it has packs of Wondfos for cheap :)

ETA: Streaming, streaming is also well worth it

I've only tried to buy food a couple of times. IMO, it's not great for food (though formula and pet food is probably different). However, a couple of times I've bought things that I'm having trouble finding in stores. I recently bought a 6-pack of PB & Co. cinnamon and raisin peanut butter. It was the same price (per jar) that I've seen in stores (though not cheaper than stores, which is the case for most things I buy on Amazon), and I didn't have to go to 5 stores to find it and I had it in a couple of days. Saving my time is just as important as saving my money!

I also did at least 60% of our Christmas shopping there, which was a huge time saver.

I love it so much. Love it for stuff that is hard to find in Stores or for things that I think of on the spot. The other day I realize I wanted dried mushrooms but that Trader Joe's' no longer sells them and In the supermarket they are so expensive per pack. So I looked them up on amazon and just bought a whole pound in like two minutes. At my door two days later in time for winter storm soup :-)

  • I love, love, love Amazon Prime.  The two-day shipping is amazing, and I've found it's totally worth it in savings in shipping costs.  I do so much of my Christmas shopping there.  Someone above also mentioned the free Kindle rental each month, which is another great perk.   But one of my favorite perks is that you can also get free streaming videos and movies -- basically like free Netflix.  It's definitely a more limited selection than Netflix, but I've watched whole shows like Lost and Downton Abbey for free.  There are also a ton of free workout videos, which is great for me who gets sick of workout DVDs way too quickly.

  • I'm on my mom's account. You can have up to 5 additional email address on yours at a time. I don't get the streaming videos, but that's no big deal. If I do want the streaming videos I make up an email address for the free 30-day trial.

We use it a ton and now I'm totally used to 2-day shipping. I hate when things take longer.

This is news to me.. I think my mom may have amazon prime. I wonder if she would let me be on her account and we could split the cost. Hmm. I'm glad you posted this!

Not only do we like the free expedited shipping but we also cut out cable a year ago and use amazon prime , hulu and the internet for all of our tv watching entertainment. We also have an hd antenna for a few network channels (which we ordered from?!?!?? You guessed it!! AMAZON PRIME!!)

  • We LOVE it, the two day shipping is worth it alone. Plus, when E was younger we used subscribe and save for diapers and other things. I pretty much buy everything off of there now we actually just renewed for another year! I don't use the videos at all, we have Netflix so I can't speak to that.
  • We love it! Totally worth the investment if you shop regularly on amazon.

I have heard that the Diaper "subscription"/reoccurring purchase (or what ever you want to call it) is great. You can set up to have the diapers shipped monthly, weekly, etc. and then you don't need to be constantly thinking about it. I think I read on the web site if you set up reoccurring purchases for 5 items on Amazon, you get 15% of all of those items.

  • I order from amazon almost weekly. Specialty food items, FRERs, home decor, toys for Christmas time, DVDs, Xbox stuff for H, I mean the list goes on. I've got the amazon app on my phone so if H goes "oh I'd love____" I take my phone out, search the item and it's on our doorstep 2 days later. I will be an amazon prime member for life.
  • I use Amazon for 80% of the things I buy. It is often cheaper and easier than hunting multiple stores for the item. I just got a backpack for my dslr camera( which I got from Amazon for $300 off store price) for $100 less than store price. That's $400 savings right there. Delivery is free . And super fast.  Also, Amazon has a great return policy- you can return just about anything for any reason.

And... while a lot of people have Netflix, Amazon has their own version that is free for prime members. Granted, Netflix has a better selection, buy Amazon has some good stuff too.

  • Love it for all the reasons previous posters mentioned! Especially discount for recurring orders.. We recently started ordering our coffee beans through amazon, we set it up so we get it just as the previous bag is ending! And a 10% discount!

I'm also realizing how lazy I am, going to the store for something is just obnoxious sometimes! Knowing it will come to your door is relieving!

Also, we're still establishing credit.. So we needed a second credit card (probably our final one), and we got the Amazon credit card (operated through chase). You get cash back rewards to be used through amazon!

  • We routinely use Amazon like Consumer Reports. We scan UPC codes into the Amazon app from products we see in the store to compare prices and models and to read the product reviews. We have also used the app to price match at Best Buy on multiple occasions. You don't need really need a membership to do this but if Amazon has the better deal than a brick and mortar store then you can buy it from them without having to pay for shipping if you have Prime. I've been renewing off of an .edu email address for several years and it has been worth it every time.

  • Amazon Prime: awesome shipping benefit, great for me to use with my PreK/Kinder classes (Dora and Kai Lan shows)

    BUT...

Net Flix: awesome access to TV shows, good access to movies. For personal use, NetFlix is better for us. We've tried both.

Depends on what you'll be using it for I think!
