My vajayjay needs your help!

This might be TMI if you aren't a grown ass woman. I think I might have a cyst (firm, bulbous thing) beneath the surface of the skin of labia minora. I've already asked Dr. Google but I only come up with the possbility of a clogged pore where your lubricating juices come from. Bartholin cyst?
For your viewing pleasure:

It does not seem to coincide with the placement of where I'm experiencing discomfort. Mine's maybe a little higher up. It's not really that noticeable unless I wipe. Only noticed it yesterday. I'm going to try some warm compresses to see if that loosens it up. Otherwise I guess I'll call my doc tomorrow morning. Hoping someone can at least put my mind at ease for the time being.

  • I read the thread title and immediately thought of this: Lightning crotch.

Yes, lightning crotch! My friend coined the term (first time we ever heard it/laughed about it, anyway) b/c of something that sounds very much like what you're describing... except it had progressed to very swollen and intensely painful and happened much closer to the end of her pregnancy.  An OB visit was a must.

I hope you're not in too much pain!

I've gotten cysts on my labia since puberty. I usually have at least one going at a time. They swell up (small grape size?) and get really painful on occasion, but usually go down within 2-3 days. Most of the time they're about the size of a blueberry and don't bother me. I've been told by all my GYN's throughout the years that they're usually caused by shaving, but some people are just genetically prone to them (me).

I'm sure it's NBD, but if you've never gotten them before, I'd call your OB. I don't think you can be too cautious while pregnant.

  • Have you ever had an ingrown hair? You can always try gently squeezing it. If it's an ingrown it will somewhat pop like a zit and you can usually see a tiny hair sticking out. Then grab it with tweezers. It hurts like a bitch. I rarely get them, but I def have since getting bigger because it's getting harder to groom down there.
  • I would not suggest squeezing it though!!! Let a doctor drain it if need-be!

Squeezing these can be super painful, and totally useless...or can make them even worse.

  • I don't have experience but I hope it gets better!
  • hmmm, well I'm glad that I'm not the only one with an interesting "situation". I don't think it's hair related because its on the inner part. But it is pretty small. Like a pea. I guess I'm gonna have to see my doctor.

  • I've not experienced this so I don't have any advice to give, I'm sorry! I hope the warm compress gives you some relief until you can get a call in to your Dr. in the morning.

It’s not that I don’t like you, it’s that I don’t know you. Stranger Danger.
  • I have gotten pimples on the inside of the lips before. Very rarely, like 3 in my whole life but they hurt like a bitch. They don't look like one either, just kind of like a red bump. They come out after standing under a hot shower. Maybe it's a pimple?
  • Could be a boil (or abscess). I had one on my breast and it was painful. It did not end up needing to be lanced and reduced on its own. Doc recommended hot compress. I'd definitely be going in to see the ob ASAP. No reason to be in pain if they can help you.

  • I'm sorry it so uncomfortable/ painful. Our bodies are so much more sensitive now that we are pregnant. It's best your OB look at it and avoid Dr. Google. Hopefully your OB can fit you in ASAP!
  • It might not be specifically a Bartholin gland cyst, as pores can clog in other areas of the labia minora and develop into cysts too, but yeah...sounds like a cyst to me.

I went in for one a couple of years ago and my OB popped and squeezed it. She said not to bother coming in if I get another, that it would be cheaper and easier just to squeeze it myself. She even said I could pop it with a sterilized pin or needle first.

They're basically just big inflamed pimples. Not dangerous but definitely uncomfortable.

  • I once had a cyst in that area. Not as close to the vajajay as yours though. I sat in a warm bath for awhile and then had to pop it when I got out. Immediate releif! I recommend super warm bath though!
  • I had an ingrown hair once that I thought was a cyst at first. It did ease up over time with some warm compresses. Anyway, I hope you feel better!

  • I have no idea if it was anything like what you're describing, but when my mom was pregnant she got varicose veins - tons all over her legs, but she even got some in the crotch.

Personally I've experienced boils there, and hopefully that's what this is. It hurt for a while, even tool weeks to go away, but it does go away.

Hope it's something that goes away soon and that your doctor isn't woroed about it.

I actually ditto this, all of it. I get these from time to time as well, more frequently when I am pregnant or about to start my period. They usually just go away on their own, I don't do anything special to treat them.

Actually lightning crotch is a widely used term and has been for a very long time. Sorry to burst your bubble.

And really is not at all like what OP is talking about!  And definitely doesn't require an OB visit.  I've been dealing with "lightening crotch" for like 10 weeks already.  Gotta love feeling like you've been kicked in the crotch!

  • I apparently had a Bartholin cyst I didn't know about when I delivered Dd2 that the Dr took care of while I was numb. I would ask your Dr.
to look at it if its painful. My concern would be abcess if it gets bigger or becomes more painful.

  • Not going to lie I've had these a few times I usually disinfect a sewing needle and drain it myself. I'd rather drain it then deal with the constant pain of being there. Not sure if they were cysts exactly or pimples or ingrown hairs. Once they appear I drain them however.

I had a small Bartholin cyst about 4 years ago. It would swell like a small grape sometimes. My OB ended up doing a marsupialization of the cyst (I had to get put under but it was fast) and I never had a problem again. She didn't want to remove it because you need to keep those glands for lubrication but she basically drained it and somehow sewed it into the walls of my vagina? I googled it lol. Anyways I never had a problem ever again!!

I used to hate it because it would flare up or at least irritate anytime me and hubby got a little aggressive. I hope u can get your problem fixed :)

ETA - Mine just right on the inside of my vagina... Like basically at the bottom inside of the hole. (Sorry if TMI!) So at my physical I told my doctor about it and she could feel it which is why she then sent me to the OB for removal. I think there was a 10% chance or reoccurrence but it hasn't happened yet.

  • If it was an abscessed Bartholyn cyst there would be no doubt about it.  I had one back in 2010 and it was horrible.  I had to leave work and go to the dr. immediately and they scheduled me for emergency surgery (under general anesthesia) the following morning at 5am.  Given what you're describing, I don't think this is what you have.  Then again, if you're worried head to the doc just to be sure!

Sounds like we had a similar situation. Mine was also about the size of a grape and I had the marsupialization and haven't had any problems since.

I have a bartholin cyst, have had it for years. It's very small, like smaller than the size of a bb and feels harder than a pimple. It doesn't bother me, it's not painful or uncomfortable and my ob-gyn says removing it can cause more problems, so we're leaving it alone unless it becomes infected or abscessed.
This is pretty much exactly like mine.  I got one about five to six years ago for the first time...it swelled up to a little larger than a grape and I already had an upcoming scheduled OB visit so I waited it out...it ended up going down with warm compresses, but it sure hurt like hell while it was swollen.  Now I just have this little hard bb like thing in my labia.  It doesn't hurt and isn't painful...but if I palpate it I can feel it there...it's a little weird, but doesn't cause me any problems and it's never swollen back up again.

Thanks for all the responses. I didn't have a chance to check it today at work. It sounds like it was a harmless thing and probably a Bartholin cyst. It ended up going away/popping on it's own after the warm shower and compress.

I also ended up in L&D last night (for a totally separate unrelated reason, but that's a different story) and they checked it out and said it seemed fine now that it's drained but to bring it up at my next appt. Thanks again!

  • It honestly sounds like an ingrown hair to me. I get them every once in a while. When you are getting ready to get out of the shower try gently squeezing it. If it pops it was an ingrown hair. Def do it in the shower so that your skin is nice and steamed.

  • I had this with my first pregnancy. It was the WORST experience of my life. I waited before going to the OB, which made it grow and hurt. When I went in they had to drain it, which means slicing it open, and they didn't numb it. I wanted to die, and not exaggerating. Labor was about a million times better. I was out of work for a week. Ok, now that I may have scared you, PLEASE go to the doctor!!!

  • I've had those! The first time I got one (in college) I freaked. I didn't even wait to call my OB's office, I went right to the office and saw the receptionist who I've known since I was 5. (My mom's friend) Direct quote: I need an appointment or a prescription for Xanax because I found a bump down there.

    Thank God for HIPA.
