Diaper Cream to Prevent Rash

Do you ladies put diaper cream on to prevent a rash, or when you see one?  I've noticed some ladies mentioning they put it on before bedtime, and color me ignorant - this never occurred to me as something I should be doing!  DD has had a teensy bit of redness a few times, and those times we put cream on and it went away by the next day.

Re: Diaper Cream to Prevent Rash

  • DS started to get red sores right around his anus so I compounded a diaper cream (clotrimazole, zinc oxide, and neosporin) and it has been a LIFESAVER. I caught the rash early and within the day I put on the cream (with every diaper change) it was gone. I stopped putting it on after it was healed, but occasionally after a bowel movement some sores would come back. So now I put it on about 3 times a day just as prophylaxis and so far it hasn't come back.

I use aquaphor several times a day to prevent diaper rash. Especially before bed time I put some on
  • It's even good for dry skin, I sometimes put it on small parts of LOs face if LOs gets a dry patch. Works wonders.
  • I only use diaper cream when a rash is starting. I use corona cream and the rash is usually gone in a day or so.

  • We use baby Aveeno soothing diaper rash cream and only use it when we notice a small rash forming. It goes away immediately.

  • DS1 gets calmoseptine every night before bed, but he goes 11 hours before a new diaper.

DS2 gets diaper rash cream as needed when he looks a lil red.
  • We use calmoseptine after his bath or when he looks red/irritated.

  • I use A&D ointment at every diaper change for prevention they also have one that is for treatment. This is my first baby and many of my friends swear by it. So far so good.
  • I use desitin with every change. DD poops everytime we change. Right now she is a little pink so I got the extra strength stuff.

  • We only use cream (coconut oil and or Desitin) if we see redness or the start of a rash. So far I think we've only had to put cream on him 1-2 times.

  • I used A&D once when his bottom looked a tiny bit irritated. The redness went away within a few hours. I wouldn't use it if there's no problem. He is changed frequently enough that I will notice if a problem is starting.
  • I use it as soon as I see a little redness and every night because it will be a long stretch of sleep (or ar least that's my hope) without a diaper change.

This is us too. DD1 only had one diaper rash and then we started aquaphor. We put a little layer on before long naps and bedtime. Never had one again. We kept that routine until she was potty trained.

  • I won't use it for prevention until she's older and STTN. I'd prefer not to put chemicals on her at this age if it's not necessary.
