So I saw on facebook that a friend of ours is naming her son (to be born in July) Leonidas. I've never heard of it before but when I mentioned it to my H tonight he burst out laughing and said "what the hell is the matter with them?? Why would they do that to their kid?" 

So I'm curious what y'all think of the name.

    yes this is what my H said, he said it was the name of one of the main characters.

    He was a Spartan king and a good one too (by Spartan standards aka good for military glory). I love the historical figure (having studied Sparta in my final years of high school) and named a teddy after him, but I could never name a kid that personally as I feel that as neither H or I are Greek it would be odd.

    Yup this, it's the Spartan King's name who is played by Gerard Butler and is total eye candy. Maybe they're bringing Greek back? LOL

    lol, I can just see this kid standing up in class going, "No, call me Leonidas!" 

    I don't think I could withhold a chuckle if I were his teacher, mostly because in my head I'd be thinking "This is SPARTA!"
