Can we talk shoes? Specifically for kiddos?

Since you all are my peeps, let's talk kid shoes.

J is walking and wants to get down and walk/explore when we are out and about. I'm in a warm climate and I honestly don't need to shoe her for warmth. My ick factor requires that I do something! She has tiny feet (3 1/2). She is walking pretty well and crawling also. There are so many freaking options and brands. I get analysis paralysis and do nothing. Which means I carry a wiggly baby that wants to get down. Help!

    I loved this brand - https://www.myrobeez.com/

DS's first shoes were Robeez mini shoez sandals and he was in this brand until I just recently bought him "real" sneakers in a size 6.  They are flexible and easy to put on (great for DS's fat feet!).  Plus they are super cute.  The soft sole was really great for him while he mastered walking!

ETA:  They have small sizes, too, I believe.

  • I really liked pediped when DS was wearing that size. I liked crocs also but we didn't put him in those till he was a four so I don't know how tiny they go, and have heard that new balance are great too. We didn't start wearing NB till he was in a 5 so I don't know if they make them that tiny.

  • M's first shoes were Robeez soft sole but they really are for INDOOR use only.  I let him wear them to a playground (where it has astroturf), and the Robeez ended up with holes b/c of the friction/rubbing when M crawls.

He now has a pair of Stride Rite - I think they are the Stage 1 - we bought them 3 months ago.  Luckily we have a Stride Rite outlet near us so we took him there for fitting/measuring.  M wears 4.5W.  It was about $25/pair.

I think he's about to outgrow them so I'll be taking him back to Stride Rite to have his feet measured again.

I didn't want to order shoes online b/c I wanted to make sure M is wearing the right size (esp if their feet are narrow or wide).  Also, when we first put shoes on M, he kept balling his toes up so it was impossible to get some shoes on (depends on the style).  It would have been a waste of money for me to order shoes online without trying them on M first.  I know many stores offer free returns, but I can't be bothered with that.

This exactly. Then he graduated to pedipeds and Stride Rite once he hit a size 6. But I still use Robeez for long car and plane trips, when he doesn't need a sturdy sole.

These were DS1's first shoes too. We've also bought See Kai Run shoes and Keen sandals. I liked those because they really cover up the toes so they won't get scraped if they are crawling or if they stub their toes.

I've never heard of these before but checked out the website these shoes are so cute! We have pedipeds that I'm happy with but when DS is older and walking. I will definitely look for the robeez. Thank you for mentioning these.

  • I think Stride Rite is the best for comfort and durability (get the washable ones!), but I'm not always a huge fan of their designs. I'm a huge fan of See Kai Run, and DD loves them as well. They have a semi-annual sale (that I think just ended?) but I stock up on shoes when they have those sales.

  • Clarks has an amazing kids line! They have first shoes which are completely flexible on the bottom but rubber treads for grip and a rounded toe to help prevent wear and up to a size 8 they have great flexible soles. If they wear weird or don't work they will exchange without question. They do have european sizing though, so I highly recommend going into a store to get measured. After finding Clarks for Kids that is pretty much all we buy.
