Pregnant after PPROM

Hi everyone,

My last pregnancy, I didn't know I was pregnant until 18 or so weeks, I conceived about 2 months after delivering my first. My dating ultrasound showed low amniotic fluid and about a week later, my water broke. I was given steroids for baby's lungs and kept in hospital for monitoring for about 3 weeks. My water levels rose and there was no more leaking or signs of labor/infection so I was released and put on modified bed rest until 39 weeks when I was induced to prevent infection. Baby was born completely healthy.

DH and I just started ttc#3. I was wondering if anyone here has had PPROM before and had a subsequent pregnancy (with or without complications). Did you have to take any precautionary meds or bed rest after getting pregnant etc etc. Any info would be helpful!

Thanks!

ETA: I was given antibiotics during hospital stay and had no labor signs at any time. None of the doctors at either hospitals I stayed at could figure out why I had low fluid or why I had PPROM or why I didn't go into labor.

Re: Pregnant after PPROM

  • I had PROM with DS1 and deliveried at 34 wks.  He had typical premie problems.  With DS2 I was on P-17 from 16-36 weeks.  I had contractions around 32 weeks but the hospital stopped them and I delivered DS2 at 39 weeks.  My insurance and MFM offered a lot more services and follow ups because of my previous PROM and I think that it all helped baby 2 be full term.  Talk to your ob and also talk to your insurance company and see what they offer.
