NWMR - Florida tips

Couldn't pass up the $159 RT flights that were coming up online yesterday so we are are now booked to go to Fl from 4/15-24.

My oldest turns 4 a week from today so looking for tips on things to see and do.

So far on my list is Legoland, Florida Aquarium, Bush Gardens, Captiva, Sanibel, Disney Downtown and hotel with Cars theme.

Any thing else I should aim to do while down there?

    Where are you flying into, and where all do you want to go?  Sanibel and Captiva are pretty far from Orlando.  Both of those islands have beautiful beaches. We took our little one to Disney when he was one and he loved the Disney parks, especially Animal Kingdom.

    Agree with pp, these places are quite far from each other but do-able I suppose if you are there a long stretch. Where is the cars themed hotel? I thought that was in disneyland in CA.

    In and out of Tampa.  My mom is in Ft Myers so we'll be bouncing around a bit over the 10 days.

    Ooh, got it! Yes, I heard of that hotel with the different themes. The ride from tampa to disney is just about 2 hours. We stayed in Siesta Key last year and went to Disney for the day since we were "closeby". I really like the gulf coast so anywhere that you mentioned, and Siesta, Naples, are all great beaches. Great airfare deal - wow.

    That makes sense then. Sounds like you are off to a good start.  I don't have any more advice for you as I don't make it that far south often with the kiddo. You'll have a blast though; and Tampa's a good airport to fly into/out of. I much prefer it to Orlando's airport.

    Tampa was much cheaper than Orlando, FT Myers and Sarasota so I jumped on it.  Driving a little doesn't bother me, even better than we saved so much.

    Taking my aunt with me - the 15th is her b-day and now she'll get to see her sister for a nice long time in a place with no snow  :-)

    Siesta Key looks like a nice beach.  Should have mentioned that my son is a total water rat.  When we wet down in Sept he spent all his time in the water - pool at mom's, FT Myers Beach, Sanibel,  He loves the water

    We're in Orlando now for our vacation. We did Legoland (fun, but overpriced), a day at the beach (Cocoa Beach, which was awesome), Gatorland (cheesy, but fun), a tour of a chocolate factory (Chocolate Kingdom--small, but cute), visited a reptile/snake zoo near my BIL's house in St. Cloud (fun way to kill an hour before dinner), mini golf and Downtown Disney (plus plenty of swimming in the pool at our rental home). Since my BIL and SIL live here, we come here twice a year, so we decided not to do the "big" theme parks this time, and we focused on the smaller attractions. We easily could have spent another week here--there is so much to do in this area. If you're going to stay at a Disney Resort, you could take a day to visit some of the other Disney resorts--they all have different pools, and some have other fun things to do. You could also do a character breakfast at one of the resorts without going into the parks. My kids loved that when we were here in September.

    Did you look into the Cars suite already? Only asking b/c April is huge spring break time which means that the suites might already be booked, or the price is likely to be pretty high, depending on what you want to pay. The whole hotel is not Cars themed, just one section, so no idea how many suites that means...

    To me, that sounds like an exhausting trip w/ a lot of driving around, and I don't even mind driving,  but maybe you are planning to mostly do day trips to & from your mom's and then stay over only in Orlando? I agree that if you're going to head up there & stay in a Disney hotel, might as well do something besides Downtown Disney, maybe a day in Magic Kingdom, or a character meal outside of a park like pp said, etc. but Legoland is a good option too like you said(haven't been there, we just went to Disney & decided not to bother driving 45 min to go there, but if you did it en route to Orlando or back or whatever it would be less driving)

    Legoland tickets are$49.99 on Costco or AAA has good discounts.  

    I looked at the Cars "suite" and no way does that look like its worth $445 a night.  Am I missing something, did they just use bad pics online?

    Disappointed that every place to stay at Anna Marie island wants a 6 night stay, so that is out.  
    Thought about taking boat from Ft Myers to Key West but not sure that is worth a 3 day/2 night stay for all of us.

    Would like to treat my folks to a nice stay right on the beach.  Next up is looking into Siesta Key area

    Lego is a must given how exited J is to have a private showing of The Lego Movie as his b-day party tomorrow with all his classmates.  He's SOOO into lego right now
