Watching my little guy getting ready to be on the move, looking around my house and seeing everything I've got to do to keep him and my stuff safe, wondering if anyone else has baby proofed yet.
I voted SS because my answer is yes and no. We have a corner of the living room gated off as an area for Grayson to play in and we also have the electrical outlet plugs in but we still need to baby proof the fireplace. Our stairs has a gate that was built into it so that's been baby proofed since we moved into the house. I also need to find a way to hide cords
I put SS because the are a few things we've already had to do but haven't done the whole house. He has a little Combi car that moves and figured out how to make his way over to the window where there were curtains, a floor lamp and outlet that he was literally reaching for before I stopped him! Gaahhhhh! Freaked my freak so I obviously took care of a few areas immediately. He's not even that mobile in this car. It amazed me that he made his way over there.
We will move the poisonous stuff to a higher cabinet but that's about it. This is the same approach I took with DS and that my parents took with my siblings and I. We gre up in a house full of antiques and learned very early how to respect things.
I chose SS because we have baby proofed some, but I feel that we need to just watch her and teach her to leave certain things alone as not every where we go will have baby proofing.
We have been doing a little at a time. We padded the edges of our brick fireplace because he rolls like crazy and I was nervous. We have done some outlets and bought baby gates.
I sort of don't even know where to start or what to do. When DS1 was a baby we lived in an apartment so he only had access to the living room and his room so it was easy. Now I feel like he shouldn't be confined to our TV room so I'm going to have to step up my game. I'm particular nervous about the fact that DS1 has lots of toys with little pieces and he's not good about picking them up, no matter how much we talk about it. Lots of little brothers/sisters survive living with their older siblings...right? lol
We bought a huge play yard and its the only area I leave him un-attended. But the rest of the house needs lots of baby proofing. We bought the gates for the stairs but haven't put then up yet. We will when he starts to crawl.
SS for me! My outlets are baby proof and that about it. I need to by a baby gate for my opening from the living room to the kitchen and I'm not going to do anything to my fireplace. He can't get into til he can stand and climb on it since it off the ground. I'll also put a gate in the hallway door since the older boys bedroom is right at the opening and they have tons of little toys. The only reason my kitchen will have a gate, is because I have a step down into my dinner room.
I said yes because the house is pretty much baby proofed from ds1. The cabinets are locked and most of the outlet plugs are still in. The dangerous furniture was moved into the basement too.
SS. Yes, but mostly because we had a home study visit for our adoption and had to have it child proofed. My 2 1/2 year old has never really gotten into anything and my June baby isn't quite to the point of needing everything baby proofed yet.

A bit here and there- but honestly, we won't be doing a ton of baby proofing anyway. But we have covers on the outlets- mostly because B is obsessed with the door stop spring thing that is bolted to our baseboard, and a few of them have outlets right above.
We have an almost 3 year old who has been a Spider-Man like climber who is interested in outlets since 16 months. My husband has been amazing about securing all the furniture in the house and latching all the lower cabinets. We also swept everything under 4 feet in the house to make sure we didn't have any nails or tack or batteries, etc in any room where spidey could reach them. He's terrifying! Now that he is finally over exploring danger everything is already set for DS2. If anyone needs any specific strategies for weird pieces of furniture and securing them ask me. DH is like MacGeyver now!
@huckleberry08 we have secured all of our bookcases, some with L brackets and some with eye hooks in the wall and a cable zip tie wrapped around a shelf back to the eye hook. The latter way saves you from having to drill into furniture. Be most careful about the short bookcases because the top shelf is often the heigh of a toddler neck and can come down and pin their neck down. The lovely things you have to think about as a safe parent there is a tragic story about a shorter nightstand killing a 3 year old because of the height and it freaked me out!
We plugged up our plugs and moved certain furniture items around. Like wine cabinet has low hanging glasses for example. We still want to gate off the kitchen, figure out the best option for our fireplace brick. I may just have to gate off the whole fireplace, but it's literally in the middle of the room. Like my kitchen is on the back side and my living room is on the other. It's not on a side wall. We also need doorknob things. I'm not doing anything to my cabinetry in my kitchen it's just going to completely be gated off so that when she's in there it's under strict supervision, otherwise she will not be in there.
My husband hid the wires yesterday that was in the living room. I've got to buy another gate, i have one already. I've got to buy those outlet things too.
That's all we are doing for now, until he's older. We will then lock cabinets, and buy those door knob things.
No... not really. We have the outlet covers in her room, and that's about it so far. Our appliances have lockout controls and our basement door has a high latch (it doesn't lock at the handle, but about 4' up the door). We keep cleaning supplies in shelving in the basement (under the stairs), but that's been since we moved in when she was 3 mos. old. I am planning a gate for her room and the stairs that I saw on Pinterest... and other than that I need to do something about cords. She LOVES cords.

We put up one of the gates yesterday. And Yep I tripped and almost took myself out. I think I need to do this in stages. We also have to figure out the dog food/water situation. So much fun!
We have a "baby cage" where we can drop him in the living room while we're busy in the kitchen. Upstairs, we keep our eye on him while he crawls around. We've put some outlet covers in; we tried to secure the oven, but the fastener we bought came off the oven door. Our next big step is to secure the TVs and his nursery furniture to the walls.
What are people doing about bookcases? We've got some really tall, cheap Target brand cases that are overflowing with books and knicknacks, and I'm terrified that he'll try to climb them one day when my back is turned.
I think we have the same ones - major tipping hazards. Buy wall anchors and secure them ASAP.
