Pregnant after a Loss

TTCALer looking for advice from IUI ladies

Hi lovely PGALers!  I am hoping to get some input from anyone who got pregnant with IUI.  I just finished my first IUI cycle (no luck), and I had some concerns about the timing of my trigger shot.  I triggered 36 hours before IUI, which I know is pretty standard, but my temps suggest that I O'd the day after my trigger (so the day before IUI).  I just spoke to a nurse about my concerns, and she presented me with a few options:

1. Back to back IUI at 12 and 36 hours after trigger.
2. IUI at 24 hours after trigger, with BW to see if I've O'd, and then possible IUI the next morning if not.
3. IUI at 36 hours after trigger again, but add BW to see if I've O'd already to get more info for the next cycle.

I am feeling kind of lost.  I plan to call back and see if I can speak to my doctor about this in person, but I was hoping to also get some input from you ladies to see what timing worked for you, and especially if anyone was in a similar situation (i.e., impatient ovaries that like to jump the gun) and how they handled it.

Oh, and I miss you guys!

all of this with extra hugs. When was your u/s and what did it look like? Did they do mid cycle blood work this past time?
Thanks, snegde.  (((HUGS))) back at you.  My US was on CD 8 and I triggered on CD 9 PM.  On CD 8 I had a large follicle (17mm) and another around 13 that she said could *possibly* catch up by likely not.  I used OPKs up until my trigger to make sure I didn't surge on my own.  I had BW on CD 8, and then again 5 days after IUI.

  • Hi LaRomana!

This pregnancy isn't a result of an IUI, but I did do fertility treatments at the beginning of last year.  I remember having the same concerns about timing.  If it would make you feel better and want to be sure to cover all of the bases, I'd go with option #1.  Also, like Q mentioned, the trigger shot will make your temps a bit higher.  Whatever it is you choose to do, I wish you all the best this cycle.  Everything crossed for you love!
    Thank you!

  • This pregnancy isn't the result of IUI, but I did have two done: one in August and one in Novemeber of last year. Both times I triggered 48 hours prior to the IUI. I was afraid of timing too....maybe option 1 would be your best bet just to be sure you are hitting the right time. Good luck on your next cycle! I hope it works!

What was your Lh from your bloodwork? You could do back to backs to make sure. Is that a physical and financial option? I think it's good to be proactive but at some point you just need to let go and realize you are doing everything you can do.
I didn't ask for a number, they just said I definitely hadn't started to surge.  I need to call my insurance to see if they will cover back to back if we decide to go that way.  I did call and schedule an appointment with my RE for Thursday morning to see what she thinks.

  • Hi LaRomana!
This pregnancy is the result of my 2nd IUI. My office does B2B IUIs 12 and 36 hours after the trigger. From what I've read it supposedly doesn't change the success rates, but it made me feel better about getting the timing right. I temped during my cycle too, and my temps were a little funky. I remember I ended up changing the CHs FF game me because they were off. I think that's normal to have temps do weird things on a medicated cycle, especially if you're also triggering.

I hope you guys figure out a plan that makes you feel comfortable, and I've got my FX you'll be over here soon!
Hmmm, those are strange temps!  Thanks for the input!

Oh, I was just looking back at my chart again and I remember what was so weird - I kept getting positive OPKs. Thinking back, it may have been because of the trigger, but I just know that if I ever have to do an IUI again I'll chart until the IUI and then put the OPKs and BBT away.
That makes sense, because the trigger is HCG, which will also turn an OPK positive.  Thanks!

I was always told that option #2 and 3 would not work because the trigger throws off your BW. I would go for the back to back IUIs, starting at 12 hours post trigger.

I also have read that trigger falsely inflates your temps.

You could also HIO at home the night of the trigger and then go for a 12 and/or 36 hour IUI.

I can't remember if you have an MFI to consider?

    Much love, friend.

  • I'm a bit different because I didn't have a trigger, just relied on a positive OPK and went in for u/s and did the IUI a few hours later. Also, they told us to HIO the next day in the am as well, so I would say it is probably better to do the IUI earlier rather than later for fear of missing the actual O, KWIM?
