Need help with nursing pillows

Sorry, can you all tell I'm trying to finish up buying everything I need? :)  I'm trying to decide between the Twin Z nursing pillow and the My breast friend.  The only problem I keep seeing in reviews is people say that they can't get them tight enough.  I don't really see a point in buying a special nursing pillow if I still have to adjust with extra pillows or blankets.  I'm usually a size 2/4... what do you guys recommend?

Re: Need help with nursing pillows

  • I use the my Brest friend and yes, even w the extra back support, I can't get it tight around me. However, the advantage, IMO, is the firmness and width of the foam. Even at 7mo, I can set one of them on the one side of me while I pick up the other one - I nurse on my bed. That's the key for me. Also, bc it latches across the back I don't have to lean against the headboard of the bed. At this point, their feet would kick and push against the headboard which makes it hard for them to stay latched.

A lot of that is specific to my situation and how I prefer to nurse, but the MBF works for me.

I'm 112 pounds and 5 5 I have no problem with it being to loose. It supports my babies perfectly. Been using it for 12 weeks. No complaints. The back pillow can be removed which I love when I use it in bed.... I have the MBF

  • I'm petite as well. I found there to be a lot of room between the twinz pillow and my body. Though I tandem fed using it for two months, so it's possible. What I actually use the pillow for now is for propping both my boys up next to each other and playing with them.

  • I have a very thin frame and getting the pillow tight enough on the my brest friend is not a problem. There is a gap, but it doesn't interfere with nursing. It's so sturdy, it supports both babies and I don't need other pillows or blankets.

  • I read some complaints about the MBF being loud when you undo the velcro especially if the babies fall asleep while nursing.  Is there a buckle you can undo instead?

    Yes, the buckle is key.

  • Ok, good to know, thanks :)
  • Though, I forgot to add, if anyone has any tips for how to get two sleeping babies off you by yourself without waking them up, I'm all ears.

  • We still have a couple of months to go until the babies get here, but we registered for and received the TwinZ pillow. I'm really excited about it. I like the fact that it can transition and be used for propping up the babies when you're not breastfeeding. It seems more versatile to me than the MBF. Of course, I'm a first-time-mom, so this is all speculation on my part.

  • Breast friend user here. I'm large, and yes there was a gap between my belly and the pillow. I just shoved a blanket in the gap and voila! It was a nice soft place for two baby heads.

Jocie, were you able to feed them hands free or did you have to hold them?  Seems like all the other nursing pillows have a slight dip so the baby doesn't roll off whereas this one looks like you'd have to hold them.  I have a toddler, so I need to be hands free if possible.
