I am 26 weeks today and I have gained 30lbs so far. I'm worried I gained too much at the beginning and am trying to eat healthier now. I am wondering what my calorie intake should be each day?? I was 130 at week 8 and now I am 160. I don't want to gain much more but my doc says no diets. I'm trying to stay away from carbs and refined sugar. Any other tips?? How much did you gain? They say 25-35 is normal but I still have 3 months left!!! Thanks so much!!

It’s not that I don’t like you, it’s that I don’t know you. Stranger Danger.
Sweetheart, we don't take kindly to the "ZOMG I've gained 5lbs, who else is getting fat?!?!?!" posts no matter who they come from.
1) we are all different women with different bodies and different metabolisms
2) no two pregnancies are exactly the same, even for the same woman
3) if you're familiar with a proper diet, why would you be worried about how much weight you've gained. If you're eating properly, STOP LOOKING AT THE FREAKING SCALE.
4) you're growing a human being. A whole entire new person. You are a FTM, this is a whole new thing for your body, don't expect to know what it's going to do or how it's going to react to anything. It doesn't even know what it's doing half the time. It's suddenly been invaded by a body snatcher who is rearranging your organs daily. Nothing about pregnancy is normal for your body. Don't expect there to be a "normal" when it comes to anything.
So far I have gained about 14-16 pounds at 25.5 weeks, but that has been thrown off by the last month because I got a horrible stomach virus in January and actually lost about 3 pounds and am just now back up to where I was before the stomach virus. So I was up about that same amount of weight at 21-22 weeks as I am now.

As an aside, I am not even suggesting that 30 pounds is unreasonable, but just merely going by your feelings when I give the above advice. I actually think that one reason you may have packed on the pounds early on is because if you had been dieting heavily for the past 3 years, your metabolism was probably really slow and quick to hold on to all extra calories when you did start eating correctly. Prior to getting pregnant this time, I had recently been on a diet (after having DS1) and lost 50 pounds. I gained a lot early on despite still watching what I ate, counting calories and exercising. I think a lot of it was from the fact that my dieting and calorie restricting prior to pregnancy so I really saw a bigger weight gain early on that wasn't really in proportion to the number of calories I was consuming.

If you're worried have your Ob refer you to a nutritionist.
To the OP, in the past three weeks I feel like I went from moderately pregnant to hugely ridiculous. I mean, I basically blacked out and ate five rice krispies treats on the train ride INTO work the other day, with my only real recollection being some crunching and the wrappers in my lap. Now my weight gain isn't bad, but I think it was my uterus moving on up has made each pound feel like ten....
Def talk with your doc, if you were underweight before, your gain may be more. And be prepared, because when that swelling and water retention starts, you can feel like your lbs are adding up faster than you can eat the calories!
