Let's talk announcements...

I don't think I've seen anything on this topic recently. In this age of social media are you doing formal baby announcements? If so, why? Are you doing electronic or printed and who are you sending them to? Both my boys were born in October, so I just ended up combining their announcement with that year's Christmas card. I feel bad not doing a formal announcement for Anna, but it also seems like a waste of time and money. I can't remember the last time I got a baby announcement in the mail that wasn't also a Christmas card. Just curious what others are doing.

Planning on doing a birth announcement/ church dedication send out.

Eta: hit done too soon. I wanted to do newborn pics originally and a birth announcement but she was such a fussy newborn and I had a really hard first couple of weeks it was survival mode and I didn't want to think about doing pictures. I have a photographer friend who will just charge 175 and give me all the pics so in may when we do her church dedication I can just send those with the invite.

  • We're doing printed announcements. DH and I have a good bit of out of town family and they aren't all "computer savvy" we want them to see DS. Also, I've had lots of friends ask for (hard copy) pictures so this will be an easy way to get a photo to people who want it.

  • We did. I have with all my children. I sent them to grandparents, great grandparents, aunts & uncles, great aunt & uncles & a few of the great great aunts & uncles I'm close to.

  • I plan to. I personally love stationery and paper goods, so it's more for me I guess. :) Plus, each time I shopped at Destination Maternity during my pregnancy I received shutterfly coupons that I plan to use for announcements.

  • I did them for each one. I need to send out my ones for DD. I just did mine through costco. Costco is not super expensive and my family likes getting them.

  • We are doing a birth announcement- when I can sleep long enough and stomach addressing all the envelopes that is.

We ordered them from Tinyprints and will be sending them to family and closest friends.

  • We did formal announcements. Mostly because my family is scattered all over the country and many of them do not use social media.
  • We ordered formal announcements. We send them to all family and friends (I ordered 100). We ordered through shutterfly this time. I had a $20 off card (that I think we got in our motherhood maternity bag?) and they had 25% off, so it was around $50 or $60. I think they might have a 30 % off sale this week!
  • If we do them they'll be printed. We don't do many. We did the same for DD, but honestly they're still sitting here. I'm horrible at mailing stuff.
  • I just ordered announcements from Shutterfly a few days ago. We did newborn and family pics so I wanted to show them off. I had a lot of coupons and promos from Shutterfly, so they were not expensive.
  • I did formal announcements with pics from our newborn photo shoot from the hospital. I had a Shutterfly gift card to use and got 25% off too so I only paid like $20 for 25.

  • I always do birth announcements.. I just love sending them and I also like to receive them from other people. Happy mail! I was going to order them from Tinyprints for Em b/c I'm feeling lazy (I usually deisgn them myself and have them printed on linen cards through VistaPrint) but we'll see.  DH goes back to work tomorrow and MIL has DD1 and DS2 (DS1 will be in school) so it's just me and the babe... maybe I'll try to find time to design them then.

  • I love paper goods! I ordered mine on etsy and will print it myself thru shutterfly.

  • I did formal announcements through tinyprints. I love receiving them and it's just what you do in my circles. I sent out about 103 of them.

  • Maddox's birth announcement. Taken from my computer. I didn't have any extra left to snap pics of. Lol

  • We did formal ones (printed and mailed) and loved doing it--because we have lots of family not on social media and it's far more personal than an email or posting on fb.

  • We're trying to keep our DD of the interwebs - my hubs is being weirdo about FB. You'll also notice this is why u didn't post pics of our LO - because my hubs has been watching too much Minority Report I guess. We started an iCloud stream for people with iPhones and since we take approx 10-20 pics a day that stays pretty up to date. We got photos taken that included the digital files ($150 for the whole shebang) and designed my own announcements via FedEx/Kinkos. Although now everyone is reminding me of all the shutterfly coupons that are just laying there. DOH. :(

  • I didn't do them with DS1 so I really wanted to this time around. I skipped on Christmas cards and found a great deal on shutterfly with multiple coupon codes. We are sending them to family and close friends---which still doesn't amount to too many, but we are going with it.

  • I love formal announcements and stationary, and planned to do them for DD.  However, I totally underestimated how hard the first few weeks would be, and it fell to the back burner.

How late do we think is too late to send out?  DD is already 7 1/2 weeks, I'm wondering if it would be weird to send out now...??

  • I am doing them but it is just a 4x6 picture.  We were going to do regular announcement but we has 100 free 4x6 prints from shutterfly soI just photo shopped her details onto a picture and did it that was.  I think it turned out good and was just the cost of envelopes and stamps.

This is what we're doing too. Of course, I undid my Shutterfly coupon savings because I had to order them twice, after I put the wrong birthweight on then the first time. And without even pregnancy brain to blame anymore...

  • We are doing annoumcents! I love getting them so I look forward to sending them.
  • I have a digital scrapbooking program, so I found something I liked online and recreated it in my program, made my own little changes and printed them out as 4x6 photos.  I was counting on doing announcements so I had prelabeled all my envelopes, all I had to do was stamp them and throw them in the mail.

I don't know why it's so big...I've resized it a couple times to get it smaller and it won't go.  Sorry!
